Recap / Kid Cosmic S 1 E 3 Kid Cosmic And The Precognitive Cat

Go To

Sensing danger, newly superpowered cat Tuna Sandwich sets off on a quest to save Kid, whose attempt to lead a team mission goes all kinds of wrong.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Truth: Turns out there actually was a scroll (of sorts) explaining the power stones in the crashed spaceship, much to Chuck's surprise.
  • Baby Talk: Kid does this when praising Tuna Sandwich for saving them.
Kid: [scratching Tuna's chin] You came to swave us, didn't you, Tuna? You knew it was a twap!
Jo: I knew it was a twap!
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Tuna Sandwich treks across the desert to save Kid because Kid looked after him when he was a small kitten.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: The brief shot of the text on the scroll turning to English gives some facts about the stones that will be fully revealed later in the season, though Kid doesn't have the time to read the whole thing.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Chuck loses his legs from a portal cut. He's not bothered by it, since his species doesn't have anything important below the waist.
  • Heroic Resolve: While on his way to save Kid from the exploding spaceship, Tuna Sandwich gets tired and collapses. However, memories of Kid looking after him since he was a stray kitten, as well as seeing what will happen if he dies, are what motivate him to get back up and continue.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Jo expresses disbelief that Tuna has acquired precognitive powers. A second later, a glowing-red third eye opens on the cat's forehead, and he leaps forward and pushes Jo out of the way just as a piece of wreckage crashes where she'd been standing.
  • Noodle Incident: Truckers have a Citizen Band radio code for "crazy feline with intent to hijack". Apparently Tuna Sandwich is not the only cat to attempt it.
  • Schmuck Bait: Chuck is pretty blatantly making up the whole "instruction manual for the stones" thing as a trick to get the team to take him to the crashed spaceship so he can contact his leader. Jo sees through it immediately, but Kid is so desperate for something to help the team get a better handle on their powers that he ignores the obvious manipulation. Subverted near the end when they discover there was a scroll to explain how the stones powers worked and the Chuck had misidentified the device holding it.
  • Self-Destruct Mechanism: Chuck tries to contact his people to Earth while on the ship, but accidentally triggers this instead.
  • Space "X": According to Chuck, the heroes need to bring him along to identify the scroll, because it's a space scroll.
  • Tongue Twister: Kid gives Jo the superhero name "Portal Girl," but repeatedly struggles to pronounce it.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Jo reassures to Kid that after all they have been through so far, they don't need some space scroll to tell them how good they are. Kid reluctantly gives up on retrieving the scroll and escapes with the others.
