Allison and Nick plan out how he'll kill Kevin: Nick will break into the house, stage a robbery and kill Kevin while Allison is out of town. In order to keep any suspicions from the police off herself, Allison ends her affair with Sam and visits a fertility clinic under the pretense that she and Kevin are trying for a baby.
Meanwhile, Patty's romantic relationship with Tammy continues to heat up, with Tammy even bonding a bit with Neil. When Neil finds a pamphlet from the fertility clinic in Kevin and Allison's garbage, he gets to interrogating them. This causes Kevin to consider the merits of fatherhood, oblivious to Allison's discomfort with the idea of having his children.
Sam returns back home and is greeted by Jenn and her parents. After a tense dinner, Sam and Jenn get into an argument about how her parents treat them and their marriage. Sam storms out.
After a disastrous day at work causes him to be forced to flee town, Nick ultimately decides to kill Kevin a week earlier than planned, though he does not inform Allison of this. That night, when they're in bed, Allison and Kevin hear Nick breaking into the house. Kevin grabs a pistol (the same one Allison and Patty acquired in Vermont) and leaves the room to investigate the noise; a loud gunshot is heard.

- Awful Wedded Life: Sam and Jenn's marriage isn't quite as toxic as Kevin and Allison's, but they're clearly not happy, especially whenever Jenn's parents are in the picture. And for that matter, Jenn's parents are also described as being miserable in their own marriage.
- Chekhov's Gun: Literally with regards to the gun Allison and Patty acquired in Vermont. They buried it in the backyard, but Kevin and Neil later found it with Neil's metal detector.
- Let's Get Dangerous!: For all his idiotic and immature behavior, Kevin immediately jumps into action to defend his home and family when he thinks the house is being broken into.
- Malaproper: Neil calls the gynecologist the "vagina-cologist".
- Obnoxious In-Laws: Jenn's parents are this to Sam, both with how they take their own misery out on others and how they meddle in his and Jenn's lives. Sam especially is sore with how they hang the money they invested into Bev's over his head and how they funded his and Jenn's rather lavish lifestyle, even though he never asked for it.
