The Taste of Defeat

Original air date: 5/26/2023

When Narlene sets up her own restaurant, all the campers head there and leave Plankton out of business. Threatened with no pay if he doesn't sell food to the kids, Plankton has to sabotage Narlene's restaurant and get his customers back — and winds up discovering a disgusting secret behind it.

"The Taste of Defeat" contains examples of:

  • Defeat Means Menial Labor: When Narlene punishes Plankton for driving all her customers away, she demotes him to dishwashing duties to pay off the cost of the customers' food.
  • Double-Meaning Title: Not only does it refer to Plankton losing his customers, but Narlene cooks the food with her feet.
  • I Ate WHAT?!: Narlene cooks food for the campers entirely with her feet, including sticking her foot into soup and licking it off. When the campers find out, they abandon her restaurant entirely.
  • Internal Reveal: While the viewers (and Plankton) witness the sight of Narlene's food being made, the campers are totally unaware. Plankton makes a big show of revealing it so the campers will go back to his place.
Plankton: Well, then feast your stupid eyes on this! She's making your precious food WITH HER FEET!
  • Lethal Chef: Plankton's cooking is terrible and almost inedible. Not helping is that he recycles old, uneaten food — since most people never actually eat it, it's implied he's been reusing it for a while.
  • Mess on a Plate: Since Plankton is a Lethal Chef, his food is just colored slop on a plate. All of the campers hate it, and it's implied to have some degree of sentience.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Parodied when Patrick's meal comes to life and tries to convince him not to eat it.
Food: Are we really so different, you and I?
Patrick: Hmm. Technically, I'm hungrier. [eats it]
  • Stating the Simple Solution: When Plankton complains to Karen that Narlene stole all his customers away, she points out that if he wants to get them back, he could just take cooking classes so his food is better and the campers actually want to eat there. Plankton ignores this.
  • Supreme Chef: As evidenced by the campers' reactions (and even Plankton's), Narlene's food is legitimately delicious. The only problem is with the way she cooks it.
  • Tomato Skunk Stink Cure: To clean off the smell of the skunk snails, Karen puts Plankton in a can of tomato juice and shakes it.
  • Unconventional Food Usage: Mo and Larry play table tennis with Plankton's slop.
  • Villain Episode: The plot revolves around Plankton trying to put Narlene's restaurant out of business.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: The sight of Narlene making her food is so gross that Plankton actually turns around and vomits.
  • Work Off the Debt: When Plankton drives all the customers away, Narlene makes him pay for their food. He can't afford it, so she hires him as her dishwasher.

Scaredy Squirrel

Original air date: 5/26/2023

While SpongeBob and Patrick are friends with the nightmarish Trawlers, Sandy's pretty creeped out by them. The three go for a sleepover with the Trawler cabin, but when SpongeBob and Patrick unexpectedly disappear, Sandy is left wandering around the cabin to look for them.

"Scaredy Squirrel" contains examples of:

  • All Webbed Up: Double subverted. Sandy thinks SpongeBob and Patrick have been caught in Preda Tory's webs, but it turns out she just keeps her dirty laundry in the webs. Elwood, however, has been completely cocooned and even turns into a butterfly later on.
  • Horrifying the Horror: The sight of Squidward's ugly, sleep-deprived face has the already creepy Trawlers running away screaming.
  • Mistaken for Murderer: When SpongeBob and Patrick disappear inside the Trawler cabin, Sandy comes across various horrific sights that make her think they've been kidnapped or killed by the residents. Sea spider Preda Tory has two mummified cocoons shaped like SpongeBob and Patrick (which are actually just her dirty laundry) and Kidferatu's room has two coffins (which are actually tanning beds). Sandy sees Roxy wielding an axe and apparently slicing SpongeBob's face off, but it's just cheese for the dish she was cooking to welcome Sandy for spending time with them. SpongeBob and Patrick are alive and well, and even had a part in planning the dinner.
  • Missing Reflection: Being a vampire, Kidferatu is invisible in his counselor photo, which only shows an ascot and hat.
  • Orphaned Punchline: When the Dinghies and Trawlers have a sleepover, we hear Roxy telling a joke that ends with "...so we say to the guy, 'if that's your severed head, then why do we have the receipt?'"
  • Running Gag: Elwood repeatedly saying "This is fun!"
  • Toilet Humor: When everyone gathers for dinner, Patrick makes a fart joke.
Roxy: I cut the cheese myself. (referring to literal cheese)
Patrick: (farts) You and me both, sister.
