Eye of the Hotdog

Original air date: 5/26/2023

A documentary by Perch Perkins details the rise and fall of Craig Mammalton's sports career as he participates in a series of hot dog Eating Contests.

"Eye of the Hotdog" contains examples of:

  • An Aesop: It doesn't matter whether you win or lose a contest, as long as you tried your best.
  • Documentary Episode: The episode takes the form of a documentary called The Kamp Koral Narrow World of Camp Sports, made by Perch. Various characters appear in interstitials to describe the events, and there are even a few transitions and visual effects befitting a documentary.
  • Eating Contest: Krabs holds three hot dog eating contests to unload a military surplus he found. Craig Mammalton wins against SpongeBob in the first one, and Patrick wins the second and sends Craig into a Heroic BSoD. In the third, both of them tie, with the trophies being so cheap that Krabs just gives them to both to satisfy them.
  • Exact Time to Failure: Plankton finds that the hot dogs he served expire on July 28th, 12:09 PM. He looks at his watch and realizes that the time strikes in three seconds, far too late to take back the hot dogs before they suddenly grow mold.
  • Heroic BSoD: When Craig is beaten by Patrick in the first hot dog eating contest, he stops exercising and caring about sports, leaving his cabin behind altogether. A pep talk from SpongeBob helps him recover.
  • Lower-Deck Episode: The episode focuses on Craig Mammalton, in his only starring role, as he tries to beat Patrick in an Eating Contest.
  • Obviously Not Fine: We're shown that after moving into the Frigate cabin, Craig upstaged Larry in every event there is. We see Larry attempting to say he's fine with it, punctuated with him breaking a glass he's holding out.
Larry: (gritting teeth) Larry is proud that Craig broke all of Larry's records.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The episode's title is a reference to the Survivor song "Eye of the Tiger".
  • Saying Too Much: When Mr. Krabs reveals that he only gave out the trophies to avoid a lawsuit.
Krabs: I thought they were gonna sue me, so I gave them all a trophy just to shut 'em up. (Beat) Wait, you're gonna cut that part, right?
  • Training Montage: After Craig recovers from his Heroic BSoD, a montage is shown of his cabinmates helping him train for the hot dog eating contest.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: The episode's climax shows all of the character repeatedly vomiting up moldy hot dogs.

Patrick Takes the Cake

Original air date: 5/26/2023

Patrick gets a cake in the mail, and when everyone else wants a piece of it, he retreats into the woods and takes drastic measures to prevent his beloved cake from being stolen.

"Patrick Takes the Cake" contains examples of:

  • Chew Bubblegum: Parodied. While defending his cake, Patrick says "I've come here to kick butt and save cake!" He then sees that his butt has been burnt through a campfire he went through, leading him to add, "...and I'm all out of butt."
  • Continuity Nod: One of the letters is for Maisey, the ghost camper from "Camp Spirit".
  • Extreme Omnivore: Patrick eats an entire bag of dirt.
  • Gravity Is a Harsh Mistress: Patrick walks off a cliff without realizing it until he looks down. Twice.
  • Here We Go Again!: At the end of the episode, Patrick is given a pie in the mail. The way he meets it is similar to how he met Cakey.
  • Jerkass Ball: Patrick gets a cake in the mail and hides in the woods so no one can steal it. A small group go out to find him. SpongeBob is worried about Patrick, but the others only care about the cake. This makes sense for Kevin and Bubble Bass, who don't particularly like Patrick, but not Sandy, his other best friend who is strangely grouped in with them.
  • Skewed Priorities: SpongeBob is the only one to be worried about Patrick's well-being, while Bubble Bass, Kevin, and Sandy are only after the cake.
Bubble Bass: Hm. That cake is five, maybe ten minutes ahead of us.
SpongeBob: Cake? Don't you mean Patrick?
Bubble Bass: You have your priorities. I have mine.
