As every single swordsman collapses from their wounds, Wonder World disappears and Luna begins to vanish faster. Meanwhile, Touma finally reaches Storious and learns a horrible secret concerning The Almighty Tome. Will Touma be able to truly decide how the story will end? Or will Storious's ending be achieved?

Episode Tropes

  • Ambiguous Situation: Yuri's been using his power near everyone's bodies for something.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Ryoga's been stone cold to his sister throughout the show, but when she reaches for his hand as she's dying, he does the same.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Touma falling down a pit, and Luna staggering her way through the tower.
  • Darkest Hour: The whole episode. Four of the swordsmen sacrifice themselves, Mei, Yuri and Luna are Fading Away even faster, Wonder World and Earth are both on the brink of collapse and Storious soundly defeats Touma in their duel.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Touma's Anti-Nihilist stance keeps him from getting pushed over the edge by Storious' Motive Rant.
  • Dual Wielding: During his "With Our Swords" Scene, Touma dual wields Kurayami and Saikou, the swords of dark and light as Yuri once did, then Nagare and Ikazuchi, the swords of his right-hand men, before going back to Xross Saber and Rekka.
  • Finger-Twitching Revival: Daishinji's right finger twitches to indicate he survived the blow he took last episode.
  • Futile Hand Reach: The Shindai siblings reach for each other's hands as they're dying.
  • Give My Regards in the Next World: The exchange between Ogami and Daishinji before executing their suicidal charge against Highlander.
Ogami: See you on the other side.
    Daishinji: I would rather not.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Four of these are pulled off in rapid succession to defeat two of the Lords of Wise. Meanwhile, Yuri seems to be undergoing one himself as he goes around healing those four at the expense of himself.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Diago both deals this (combining it with Death of a Thousand Cuts to deal a fatal blow to Ryoga) and is dealt one; Reika stabbing him fatally with both her and Ryoga's swords.
  • Leave Him to Me!: When Rintaro arrives in just time to save the siblings, Ryoga sends him away so they could continue to fight Diago on their own.
  • Only Mostly Dead: Subverted. Daishinji survived a seemingly-fatal blow last episode... only for him and Ogami to pull off another sacrifice against Highlander shortly after.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Defeating Diago and Highlander requires four of the swordsmen pulling Heroic Sacrifices.
  • Say My Name:
    • Both Shindai siblings scream each others' names ("onii-sama" in Reika's case) upon Diago mortally wounding the other.
    • Ogami whispers his son's name before collapsing.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Touma's response to Storious' rants on how humans have no creativity and that everything is predetermined is that unoriginal stories are new to the people that read them for the first time.
  • Start of Darkness: Storious' is revealed here. He was originally a novelist like Touma, but lost all faith in new ideas (and the people that make them) when he found everything he had/ever would write within the Book of Omniscience.
  • Stopped Caring: The impetus behind Storious' Start of Darkness. Seeing his work already recorded in the Book of Omniscience convinced him that humans can't be creative and that everything is predetermined.
  • Taking the Bullet: Ogami does this to enable Highlander's defeat, catching a fatal shot from Suzune in the process of stopping his reflector sickle.
  • "With Our Swords" Scene: In quick succession, Touma uses the power of Xross Saber to summon replicas of all swords bar Kyomu while fighting Storious.
  • A World Half Full: Touma's response to Storious' Motive Rant essentially boils down to turning it over for the positive. Everyone is the protagonist of their own story and books give the freedom to explore the story of someone else. They should give happiness regardless of whether they are created original or not.
