Out into the light, the X Swordsman of Light!

Tassel: Bonne lecture, my friends! My name is Tassel.
Right now, I'm— (doorbell rings)
It seems we have a visitor. (gets up) Coming~!
(opens the door, revealing it to be Yuri)
Yuri: The meaning of Justice has changed in these 2,000 years.
That's what I have learnt from Touma Kamiyama, as well as this book.
Tassel: So... what will you do now?
Yuri: I will cease being merely a sword, and become a swordsman once again.
If you would, I'd like it back; the book that contains my entire history as a swordsman.
"The Tale of Saikou, the Radiant Blade".
(pause, as Tassel blinks awkwardly)
Don't tell me... you've lost it?!
Tassel: No, not at all! Just hold on, I'll find it in a jiffy! (runs off)

Mei warns Touma of all of the recently missing people and after immediately heading out towards the scene, Touma learns that there were many more victims besides just Yuki and Shingo alone. Touma and Mei are saddened by the fact that there were people who they couldn't save. Meanwhile, at the Southern Base, Daishinji declares that he will bring the Sword of Flames back to the guild, staking his pride as a swordsman on the line in order to prove his loyalty to the guild. He recalls feeling something akin to when his grandfather told him about the myths of the Seiken. Not to mention, Storious tries to create a special Megid to steal the Seiken from the swordsmen. A new Megid is created by harnessing the components of the three book genres: Mythical Creatures, Living Animals, and Fairy Tales. The battle between the swordsmen and the threat of a new Megid are quickly gaining on Touma. Around that time, Yuri, who was told of the possibility of recovering his swordsman's body, was paying a visit to Tassel.

Episode Tropes:

  • Big Damn Heroes: Yuuri saves Touma from the Charybdis Mamono with his new X-Swordsman Ride Book in tow.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Tassel attempts to help Yuri look for the book that contains the knowledge of him as a swordsman, spending half the entire episode rummaging through his chest of other swordsmens' books and his pockets... only to find it right inside the hat on his head.
  • Foreshadowing: Right as Touma and Mei meet with a missing person's wife, the Jumbotron above them shows the performance of the Imoto sisters, who provide the vessel for this chapter's Mamono as well as the next one's.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Tetsuo gives a minor one to Touma, telling him he's not qualified to be a swordsman due to overusing and over-relying on spam attacks with his Wonder Ride Books and underutilising his sword. Once Touma got over that however, he manages to start tapping into Rekka's full potential.
  • Secret Test of Character: Tetsuo duels Touma, ostensibly to test his resolve. The fact that Touma is more able to hold his own compared to their previous duel, as well as Saber beginning to tap into Rekka's full potential, is enough to convince Tetsuo to leave the Sword of Logos and join Touma.
  • The Stinger: Despite having freed one of the Imoto sisters from the Megid, the healing abilities acquired from the Hanzaki Megid enabled the Charybdis Mamono to regenerate its partly-completed Alter Ride Book, which Storious picks up.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome:
    • While the Megid have been turning a large number of people into Mamono, not all of them are out wreaking havoc while their human selves are being converted to Alter Ride Books and thus went undetected. By the time Touma and Mei learn of the large number of missing people who have been turned into books, it was all too late.
    • Touma mainly relying on spam attacks with his Wonder Ride Books to fight meant he was severely underusing his sword despite being a swordsman. Tetsuo calls him out on this.
  • Wham Shot: Our first shot of the Megid Generals in this episode has them admiring a pile of Alter Ride Books, implying that there were quite a few people who were turned into Mamono and went unnoticed, too late to be saved by Touma and Yuri. Meeting with the people they left behind is enough to give Touma a minor Heroic BSoD.
