Recap / Kaeloo S 3 E 34 Lets Play At Being Psycho Revamped

Go To

When Stumpy has trouble cleaning his room, Mr. Cat runs tests on him to see if he has dyspraxia. Kaeloo is more than convinced that Stumpy is faking it.

"Let's Play at Being Psycho-Revamped" contains the following tropes:

  • Afraid of Needles: Kaeloo uses Stumpy's fear of needles to trick him into cleaning the room.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Mr. Cat attempts to diagnose Stumpy with dyspraxia, although Kaeloo keeps insisting that Stumpy is just lazy. It's not really clear whether Mr. Cat actually believes that Stumpy has dyspraxia, or he's just pretending to believe so just to piss off Kaeloo.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": Stumpy's idea of Playing Sick is to and yell "I'm suffering!" over and over again.
  • Blatant Lies: Stumpy tells Kaeloo that he can't clean his room because a wizard cast a spell on him.
  • Continuity Nod: Stumpy is still afraid of needles.
  • *Crack!* "Oh, My Back!": Stumpy pretends to get this type of injury while exercising.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Kaeloo tells Mr. Cat that therapy will help him get over his "strange attraction to toads", which sounds reminiscent of someone telling a gay person that they can be fixed with therapy.
  • Dysfunctional Family: In Stumpy's explanation of how his family acts, his mother keeps yelling at him for no reason, his father is an alcoholic who keeps getting fired from his job, and his sisters are bullies. Aside from the job insecurity, they're exactly like the Cat family.
  • Expospeak Gag: Mr. Cat explains that he will run tests on Stumpy. Translated from French, it goes like this:
Mr. Cat: We will execute a series of tests to determine the seriousness of his psychomotor abnormalities.
    Stumpy stares in confusion
Mr. Cat: The doctor is going to see what's wrong with your thick-skulled head, sweetie.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Kaeloo tells Stumpy to clean his incredibly messy room, and the latter resorts to Playing Sick so he can sit around playing video games instead of cleaning. Kaeloo sees right through this, so she says that if he's sick, he must need medicines... and brings in a truckload of vaccines. Stumpy, who is terribly Afraid of Needles, says that he "got better", and is forced to clean his room.
  • Hypocritical Humor:
    • When Kaeloo yells at Stumpy, Mr. Cat tells her that she shouldn't be so mean to him. Mr. Cat regularly yells at, insults and even beats up Stumpy.
    • Each member of the main four claims himself/herself to be the Only Sane Man and says that the other three need therapy.
  • Literal-Minded: Mr. Cat draws a line on the ground and asks Stumpy to "follow the straight line" (as in, walk on the line without deviating from the path). Stumpy (who is pretending to be even dumber than usual) says that he can't "follow the line" unless the line starts to move.
  • Out-of-Character Moment:
    • Kaeloo is easily annoyed and keeps yelling at Stumpy, and also seems irrationally angry at Mr. Cat.
    • Mr. Cat actually tries to help Stumpy and expresses sympathy for him.
  • Playing Sick: Stumpy pretends to have dyspraxia.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: When Mr. Cat explains what dyspraxia is, Stumpy decides to pretend to have it and fakes all the symptoms so he can have an excuse to laze around without doing any chores.
  • Take That!: The episode is a satire on psychologists who diagnose healthy children with illnesses and then try to treat them for those illnesses.
  • Wham Episode: To some extent, Stumpy is faking his incapability to do anything right.
