Recap / Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous - S5E08 "Clean Break"

Go To

  • Amplified Animal Aptitude: The Parasaurolophus herd manages to predict a Baryonyx attack and cover their elderly member in leaves beforehand to hide them. While studies on dinosaur intelligence are justifiably sparse, it's unlikely they were that intelligent.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Since Mae has begun acting more cooperative, Mr. Kon lets slip that the children have escaped while she's in earshot. As such, she has no reason to obey him and escapes into Nublar with the DNA he wanted.
  • Good Costume Switch: Kenji puts his Nublar clothes back on just before learning the truth about his father and deciding to turn against thim, signifying that thanks to Mae, Kenji is undoing his father's influence of his own accord.
  • Guile Hero: Kenji manages to manipulate both Hawkes and his father into letting Mae escape, saying they can get samples from their own dinosaurs and with Isla Nublar being the way it is, she likely won't last a day.
  • Hypocrite: When Kenji explains to his father that he went back to his old clothes because they made it easier to move around, his father retorts that their family isn't about "easy". The thing is, he himself is doing things the "easy" way by exploiting the dinosaurs for profit instead of finding a better (if harder way) to protect them. Ironically, the Camp Fam have taught Kenji more about doing things the hard way (protecting the dinosaurs at the cost of going home) than Mr. Kon himself.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Dave starts to consider packing it in, saying that if there was anyone else on the island they would have found them by now. Cue Mae walking into the clearing.
  • Instant Sedation: Subverted. Hawkes nearly gets eaten when he darts a Ceratosaurus and the dinosaur only stumbles before regaining her feet and charging. He needs to dart her again before she goes down.
  • Internal Reveal: Mr. Kon, then Mae learn the children escaped.
  • Morality Pet: Throughout Season 5, Kenji has been giving his father the benefit of the doubt, that perhaps he's still a good father who will respect what his son wants as long as he pleases him. But seeing Bumpy mind-controlled is the catalyst that sets off Kenji's realization he made a mistake in siding with his father.
  • Smells of Death: Branden, Roxie, and Dave come across Mitch and Tiff's camp. The dinosaur head they collected is rotting, and while the audience is spared the sight of it, Dave throws up and Branden and Roxie are shaken.
  • Wham Shot: Despite that his father promised to leave her be, Kenji is still treated to the disheartening sight of Bumpy, mind-controlled. This is the wake-up call Kenji needs to realize his father's not a good person or a good father if he can't respect his son's boundaries.
