"Yes! It'll take you any place in no time at all!"

Martin the Martian Meets Felix the Cat is a 1961 Felix the Cat cartoon, produced by Joe Oriolo and distributed by Trans Lux.

Felix is babysitting Poindexter again as Professor goes off to the theater, and Felix orders them to stay at home and Poindexter to get to bed early. Poindexter then asks Professor if he remembers “that clever martian chap, Martin?” Professor says yes, and Poindexter asks if they could bring him to Earth on a student exchange program. Professor says no and begins walking off, failing to notice Felix's Magic Bag right in front of him on the floor. Felix tries to warn him, but Professor trips. Professor walks off indignated. Poindexter asks curiously whats in the bag, but Felix explains that the bag is magic. Poindexter laughs at the idea, refusing to believe that magic exists. Felix is annoyed and decides to show him what the Magic Bag can do. Felix recalls how he used the Magic Bag to turn into a submarine to travel under the North Pole. Poindexter seemingly buys the story, but Felix tells him its time to get to bed. Felix sits down and reads, and tells Poindexter he'll read him a bedtime story. While Felix is looking away, Poindexter sneaks by and steals the bag to examine it, scanning it by Vibration rate, then compression index. Poindexter tests the bag, and turns it into a doorway, which Poindexter says will allow him to travel to Mars. Felix wakes up and realizes Poinsy stole the bag, catching him going into the doorway. Just when Felix gets near the door, a giant claw reaches through and grabs him.

Felix finds out he's in the claws of Master Cylinder, and realizes he's on Mars. Felix tries to escape Cylinder's claws, but then finds out that it isn't actually him, but his empty shell, now occupied by Poindexter, who explains that he came through the magic door to find his pal, Martin the Martian. As if on cue, a small, impish martian teleports right onto the scene, asking if he heard his name mentioned, to Felix's surprise. Poindexter points out Martin's 4th-Dimensional Space Capsule, remarking to Martin that its a nice gadget. Martin remarks that it'll take them anyplace in no time at all. Unbeknownst to our heroes, the real Master Cylinder has decided to show up behind them, and traps them all under a jail cell. Poindexter points out that Master Cylinder has shrunk, but Cylinder says instead that he's converted himself into a new model. Cylinder notices Martin's cube, and asks what it is. Martin says he wouldn't understand, but Cylinder refuses to buy it, and orders Martin to bring it to him. Martin complies, only to drop the cube right on the robot, sending him away. Felix asks where Martin sent him, and Martin explains that he sent Cylinder to the Crab Nebula. Felix decides to head back home with Poindexter, thanking Martin as they say goodbye. They arrive home just in time for Professor to ask where they've been, and Poindexter points out the Magic Door. Professor investigates it, but the bag returns to normal, squishing Professor inside it. Felix frees him as Professor stomps around furiously as Felix laughs and shakes hands with Poindexter.

Tropes:

  • Art Evolution: Master Cylinder is now drawn with legs and a metallic mouth in this episode. Justified, as Cylinder say's he converted his body to a more convenient all transistor model.
  • Broad Strokes: When telling Poindexter a story, Felix says he used the Magic Bag as a submarine to travel under the North Pole, broadly referring to a similar indicent from “The Abominable Snowman”. The footage used is new though, so its not an explicit reference to the episode.
  • Flat-Earth Atheist: Poindexter believes in aliens and buys the idea of a talking cat, but he refuses to believe that Felix's bag is magic. He finds out for himself that it is once he tests it, and uses it to go to Mars.
