"We're at the summit!" "This is no time for a conference!"

Abominable Snowman is a 1959 Felix the Cat cartoon and the third episode of the Felix the Cat (Joe Oriolo) series.

Felix is spending the day walking through the North Pole with his bag of tricks, walking up to a place where he can rent a sled dog. Not too far away, Professor is spying on him through a telescope, planning on stealing his bag of tricks. Felix pays a local Inuit to rent his sled dog, and the mutt immediately takes off, with Felix barely hanging on. The dog almost falls off a cliff, but grabs onto it as Felix falls down. Felix gets back up, but sees a sign in a cave opening nearby, which says "This way to the abominable snowman." Felix notices some footprints trailing away from the signpost, and decides to follow them, failing to notice the footprints go right through a tree and are inexplicably backwards at points. Up ahead, it turns out Professor is the source of the footprints, hopping through the snow on a crude toy foot. Professor disguises himself as a snowman, and Felix walks up to him, asking if he's the abominable snowman. Felix thinks he's nice and assumes he's hungry, and tries to feed him some snow, which annoys the "snowman" and gets him smacked with the snowball in turn. Felix asks if the snowman likes anything, and he says he likes to play games. He blindfolds Felix and starts counting, but begins to sneak off, grabbing Felix's bag along the way. He eventually takes off on skis, which blows off Professor's snow disguise. Professor skis through the arctic wilderness as Felix looks on, wondering what he can do. Professor eventually stops at a formation of ice, laughing that he got away. His victory is short lived through when he turns around and looks up, finding out that he's right at the foot of a giant 50 foot monster made of ice, who reveals himself to Professor as the real Abominable Snowman. He starts banging his chest and roaring, and the terrified Professor starts calling to Felix for help. Felix acts fast and grabs two icicles, turning them into makeshift skis and immediately heading off to help his foe. He arrives right by Professor and grabs his bag, both of them looking up in fear of the giant monster in front of them both.

The giant monster picks up the shaking Professor, who carries Felix up with him by his tail. The monster has them stand right in the palm of his hand, face to face with him. Fortunately for them, the snowman ironically has a cold and makes a huge sneeze, which blows away Felix and Professor. The monster roars and chases after them, with Professor leaving Felix behind and digging his way under snow as fast as he can. Felix, who has the monster right on his tail, reaches the shore of the arctic ocean and acts fast, turning his Magic Bag into a mini-submarine, allowing him to escape. Up ahead, Professor bumps into the North Pole (that is, a literal giant pole) but moves on, with Felix trailing behind him under the ice with his sub. Professor ends up burrowing all the way from Alaska to the United States, and he winds up back at his house, popping out of the floor near his TV set, relieved that he's safe at last, and with Felix on ice. He watches a racecar show on his TV, but the program is interrupted to bring a special bulletin—Felix is a hero yet again for completing the first solo submarine crossing under the North Pole. Envious and frustrated, Professor starts banging his head on the wall, leaving cracks in it. On the TV set, Felix says "Righty-O!" and laughs as the cartoon irises out.

Tropes:

  • Artistic License – Geography: The global view of Earth when Professor is travelling labels the entirety of the North Pole region as Alaska (while there is a North Pole in Alaska, it's only a small town).
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: The Abominable Snowman is huge, and by far the largest creature Felix has ever encountered.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Felix immediately makes a quick ski chase to rescue Professor, but it doesn't work out.
  • Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: Felix and Professor encounter a king size variety of the latter in this cartoon.
  • Hulk Speak: The Abominable Snowman's one line "Me, snowman!" uses this syntax.
  • Real After All: At first, Professor is just faking the existence of the Abominable Snowman as part of his scheme to get Felix's bag, but he ends up encountering the real deal.
  • Save the Villain: Felix tries to pull this off, but he ends up in the clutches of the Snowman as well.
  • Stock Footage: Felix's first walk cycle and thinking walk is reused from The Magic Bag. The scene where Felix is hailed as a hero again is recycled from "Into Outer Space".
  • Visual Pun:
  • Worm Sign: Professor leaves this in the snow (and later the ground) when he's running away from the abominable snowman.
