Three days after the battle, Speedwagon visits Jonathan in hospital, peering inside his room to see a young woman tending to his wounds; He notes that the woman's hands are red and swollen, indicating that she has been doing so for a long time. When Jonathan awakens, he recognizes the woman as his childhood sweetheart, Erina Pendleton. The two reform their bond as Speedwagon leaves them be. Meanwhile, Jack the Ripper has murdered his latest victim when he is confronted by Dio, who is draped in a heavy cloak and bound to a wheelchair, pushed by the now-zombified Wang Chan; Dio hypnotizes Jack and drains his blood, turning the serial killer into his zombie servant.
The next day, Jonathan and Erina return to the ruins of the Joestar mansion to ensure that Dio and the Stone Mask are destroyed. As they walk, a strange man appears on a nearby stone wall, eating a sandwich; He suddenly jumps into the air and jams his pinky finger into Jonathan's lungs, winding him. Erina calls him out for this, but Jonathan's body is suddenly filled with a mysterious energy, healing his broken arms. The man introduces himself as Will Anthonio Zeppeli, a martial arts master trained in the ways of Hamon. To demonstrate his power, he takes Jonathan and Erina to a nearby pond, using Hamon to strike a frog sitting atop a rock; Amazingly, the energy travels through the frog and splits the rock in half, leaving the frog unharmed. Zeppeli explains that Dio has survived the inferno and that he has travelled to England to destroy the Stone Mask; He notices that a tree branch Jonathan is holding has bloomed with various flowers, and notes that he shows great potential as a Hamon master.
While Dio takes refuge in a mansion, draining the blood of civilians to heal his wounds and forge an army of zombies, Jonathan trains vigorously under Zeppeli for the next week, during which Zeppeli explains his motive for destroying the Mask; When he was young, he and his father's team of scholars travelled the world, discovering the Stone Mask in a set of Mexican ruins. Zeppeli's father had used the Mask to become a vampire, killing the other scholars and attempting to kill Zeppeli too before he was caught in the sunrise, burning him to ash; Now, Zeppeli wishes to prevent the Mask from harming anyone else. After teaching Jonathan the Zoom Punch, a technique where the user extends their arm using Hamon, Speedwagon informs the two that Dio has been sighted in the rural town of Windknight's Lot.
The group take a carriage through a mountain tunnel, but are attacked by Jack the Ripper, who slaughters their driver and horses before caving in the tunnel to trap them. He fires several scalpels from inside his body, but Zeppeli infuses a glass of wine with Hamon and deflects them all; After melting part of his face with a Hamon Kick, Jack retreats into a secret side passage, while Zeppeli gives Jonathan the wine glass. As his final exam, Jonathan must defeat Jack without spilling a single drop of wine, or Zeppeli will not aid him on his quest. Inside the passage, Jonathan discovers that he can use the ripples in the wine to conduct his Hamon, performing a Sendo Hamon Overdrive to fire a shockwave through the wall and kill Jack, disintegrating him and passing the test.
