Jane the Girl in Love

"Okay, bottom line? No more secrets, much more communication. We have to work together."
Jane

Xiomara recovers from her surgery. Rogelio tries to sort out the nanny problem with Darci. Rafael and Jane attempt to get to know Jane R. more. Alba prepares for her citizenship exam.

Tropes:

  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Petra's list of sensitive topics Jane and Rafael aren't allowed to bring up: sex, politics, religion, and the New York Mets.
  • As Himself: Mario Lopez as a client of Felicia, a professional celebrity nanny.
Narrator: Mario Lopez? What's he doing here?
  • The B Grade: Jane is supportive of Mateo's straight-4's, but Petra and the twins treat it as subpar.
  • Flashback Cut: Rafael says he wouldn't say anything patronizing or overprotective about children to Jane R. — cut to a flashback montage of him doing the same to Adam.
  • Hates Small Talk: Jane R. hates small talk, according to Petra.
  • Love Confession: Jane and Rafael say “I love you” to each other for the first time since they got back together.
  • Mistaken for Pedophile: Rogelio goes to poach Felicia from Mario Lopez at a playground looking sketchy.
Narrator: It is important to note that while Rogelio thinks he’s being recognized for his celebrity, the truth is: No one likes a grown man alone at a playground.
  • Only Sane Man: Bizarrely, Esteban, who calls both Rogelio and Darci for being immature and forces them to make up, pointing out that their dynamic is unhealthy for Baby.
Esteban: Stop! Enough. You used your wife's cancer to avoid telling Darci the truth about not being able to watch Baby? And you made him feel like there was a crisis only you could fix just to teach him a lesson? [...]You are both wrong.
Darci: Mush, whose side are you on?
    Esteban: I'm on Baby's side!
  • Somebody Doesn't Love Raymond: This flaw of Jane's comes up again; she is upset that Jane R. doesn't like her.
  • Surprise Incest: A plot twist In-Universe. The Villanuevas' TV short circuits before they can learn that the romantic leads were long-lost half-siblings.
  • Uncomfortable Elevator Moment: Between the two Janes in a Marbella elevator, as Jane tries to patch up their relationship while Jane R. is resistant.
