With Michael's help, Rafael starts spying on Anezka to see if his and Jane's suspicions hold water. Alba allows Jane to read her sister Cecilia's letters, resulting in Jane making contact with her extended family and causing conflict between her and Alba. Michael and Rafael, through Jane and later Rogelio's efforts, make steps towards a friendship. Petra emerges from her induced paralysis with a vengeance.
Tropes:
- Contractual Purity: In-universe; Rogelio's role means he has to go full frontal, but his contract with his network disallows it, as they have to preserve the network's brand. They can allow him to do the role, but he'll owe them a favor.
- Comically Missing the Point: Michael relays that he saw Rafael schmoozing on a married woman at the gym. Jane's confused why he would do that when he already has Mateo, and Michael is shocked that it's not the 'married' thing she takes offense to.
- Fire-Forged Friends: Michael and Rafael start to find common ground together due to a...
- Missing Child: Downplayed heavily. Mateo goes missing for all of 14 seconds, but Rafael and Michael are shaken enough that it puts their conflict into perspective, and they make amends.
- Outclassed at the Gym: Rafael and Michael go to the gym together. Rafael is conspicuously more muscular than Michael, and wearing a far more revealing shirt, showing all his arms, shoulders, and much of his chest, in contrast with Michael's normal, modest t-shirt. Rafael also makes flirtatious eye contact with a woman at the gym while lifting weights. Michael thinks Rafael is rather vain and slutty. Rafael thinks Michael is judgey. At the end of the episode, though, the men reach out and make amends.
- Shout-Out: Xo mentions "Beauty School Dropout" from Grease, and later imagines Rogelio, Alba, and Jane performing a Pastiche of it when she realizes she wants to open a dance school.
- This Is Reality: Jane and Rafael are reluctant to believe that Anezka might be Petra because it sounds too telenovela-like.
- Workout Fanservice: Rafael working out at the gym is considered very attractive in-universe and is clearly intended to be attractive to the audience as well.
