Recap / Jackie Chan Adventures S 2 E 7 Jade Times Jade

Go To

The Dark Hand discover the location of Po Kong's portal in Japan.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Achievements in Ignorance: Jade ends up accidentally helping Jackie solve the riddle by pushing him towards the window in an attempt to keep him from seeing her clones. When Jackie sees the Sumida River outside, he quickly realizes that the river leads to the Demon Portal, because a river runs, but never walks, and has a mouth, but never talks.
  • The Cuckoolander Was Right: Subverted. Ratso believes the riddle pointing to the location of the Demon Portal — "Runs but never walks, mouth but never talks" — is a mascot for a toy because it runs on batteries, but doesn't walk, and has a mouth but still can't talk. Valmont admits that it's worth taking a look at in the absence of better options, but ultimately it turns out not to be the case.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Jade casts a duplication spell on Uncle's most valuable vase. Aside from botching it, when Uncle berates Tohru for the spell (assuming he cast it) he shows that duplicating a rare item in his shop is not inherently a good idea since all the duplicates of his vase make it worthless.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Though Ratso's suggestion of the huge toy animatronic being the the Demon Portal's location is incorrect, his reasoning ("It runs on batteries, but doesn't walk, and it's got a mouth, no way it talks.") is sound enough to match the riddle that Valmont gives it a try.
  • Me's a Crowd: Jade casts a duplication chi spell on herself so she can help Jackie in Japan while the clone stays behind so Uncle and Tohru are none the wiser. However, not only did the clone also go to Japan, it starts duplicating a lot, to the point where, by the end of the episode, there's thousands of Jades running around.
  • Required Secondary Powers: Jade could have been a potential Chi-wizard if it weren't for the fact that her over-excitement made her overlook a necessary finishing spell to stop a duplication spell from well... duplicating.
  • Student–Master Team: Uncle decides to teach Tohru chi spells officially making him his apprentice.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Considering who they're clones of, Jade's copies are quick to choose only one Jade to single out as the original.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: After his other screw-ups, Tohru immediately explains how to undo the duplication spell and how he came across this solution in the first place. Uncle says he will be a good apprentice, after all.
  • Villainous Glutton: Po Kong is more interested in supper than terrorizing humans.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Tohru becoming Uncle's apprentice is rough going at first. This is especially the case when Tohru outright forgets to bring the symbol and sheepishly admits he thought Uncle had it.
Uncle: What kind of apprentice are you?!
    Tohru: A lousy one?
  • You Are Grounded!: In order to turn Jade back to normal, Tohru discovered a way to undo her duplication spell, but it will only work on the real Jade. All the clones volunteer, so Jackie threatens her with this for a whole year without T.V. The clones quickly point to Jade while she points to a clone.
  • Zerg Rush: Jade and her duplicates defeat Po Kong this way, rushing at her and pinning her down long enough for her portal to be reopened.
