Recap / Jackie Chan Adventures S 2 E 38 Ill Be A Monkeys Puppet

Go To

Much to Uncle's dismay, Jackie and Jade buy a monkey puppet from a rival antique seller. When Jackie reads the inscription to pull the monkey king's leg, he does so, restoring the Monkey King in the flesh. The consequence to this is that Jackie Chan himself becomes a puppet!

Thanks to the powers of the Rat Talisman, "Puppet Jackie" is reanimated. However, he learns that the only way to reverse the curse is to get the Monkey King to pull Puppet Jackie's own leg. Can our heroes defeat this primate fiend and return Jackie to his normal self?

This episode provides examples of:

  • Ax-Crazy: Monkey King. Lampshaded by Uncle.
Uncle: We are dealing with a very sick mind.
  • Big "NEVER!": Uncle's response to Jackie about going to Kai Ching's store.
  • Blowing a Raspberry: Jade does this when Monkey King declares he's never going back to being a puppet just so Jackie will turn back to normal.
  • By Wall That Is Holey: Jade runs from a giant rolling prop donut. She can't outrun it, but luckily the donut has a bite in it and she ducks in the gap.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The fact that puppet Jackie's limbs are deattachable which saves him twice in the episode.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Jackie’s ability to throw his voice is a key part in helping trick the Monkey King and return him to normal.
  • Exact Words: To cure Jackie, the Monkey King has to pull Jackie's leg. Jade brings up this later.
Jade: (after having used a "stick" to get the Monkey King out of the cement but said King pulled on it) Uncle said you had to pull Jackie's leg. (cut to puppet Jackie next to her standing on one foot) He didn't say Jackie had to be wearing it!
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Stuck in a cement mixer, Jade tries to pull Monkey King out with a stick. Monkey King decides to be petty and pull the stick...and seal his fate. Turns out the stick Jade gave was Jackie's detached leg.
  • Idiot Ball: Given his previous experiences with magic, you'd think Jackie would know better than to do what any mysterious inscription tells him to without considering the possible consequences, especially since he's normally cautious about this sort of thing.
  • Karma Houdini: Apparently, Kai Ching knew the Monkey King puppet was dangerous, yet he only walks away $220 richer ($20 for the puppet itself, $200 for the book that reveals how to reverse the curse).
  • Look Behind You: Jade does this to the Monkey King, much to his dismay.
Monkey King: Can't believe I fell for that old gag.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Uncle has Kai Ching.
