Go To

Governor Croque has been framed for conspiracy to assassinate the Emperor and is now in prison.

Tropes featured in this episode:

  • Aesop Amnesia: Exaggerated. After Croque's stint in prison, he has a Heel Realization and that people suffer under the laws he enforced. He vows to pardon prisoners and easy up, but once back in power, he immediately forgets his promises and insists he only spoke out of duress.
  • Anachronism Stew: Jack angrily remarks that "Life is a cereal, not a sentence!"
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Croque's wife has her husband framed for conspiracy to assassinate his brother because he forgot their Anniversary.
  • Easily Forgiven: Croque forgives his wife for all she put him through, and it's unlikely she'll face any consequences for forging government documents either.
  • Felony Misdemeanor: Croque had an entire Circus sent to prison for their clown act, which he saw as a mockery of the aristocracy.
  • Frame-Up: Croque was "framed like the Mona Lisa" by his own wife with a forged document detailing an attempt to assassinate the Emperor.
  • The Killer Was Left-Handed: Emilia surmises that the document that sent Croque to prison was fake because Napoleon is left-handed and has a notoriously smudgy handwriting.
  • Luxury Prison Suite: Croque proclaims that he would create a prison specially made for the aristocracy "with good food and comfortable beds."
  • Prison Episode: Croque is framed for plotting to assassinate Napoleon and Jack (unwillingly) goes to prison to protect him, while Emilia works to prove his innocence.
  • The Strongman: The Strongman of the prison circus leads the rest of their members in the prison.
