Recap / J-WITCH S2 E12, "One Person's Trash"

Go To

As J-WITCH and the Knights fight over a newly-discovered Horn of Hypnos, an old foe makes a surprise return and throws his hat in the ring.

  • Back-to-Back Badasses: Irma and Drago briefly end up doing this when the J-WITCH and Knight trance marchers end up cornering them. Neither is happy about it.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Alchemy is comically horrified to find herself using Uncle's "One more thing" while coming up with her plan to destroy the Horn of Hypnos.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Drago takes back his chi from Raythor, Frost, and Hak Foo when they're turned into trance marchers by Valmont and told to attack him. He states after they're freed that he intends to return it to them once they've managed to get away.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Alchemy's improvisational version of chi magic, established early in the chapter, allows her to develop a spell capable of destroying the Horn of Hypnos just from the junk that Blunk has lying around his hideout.
  • The Farmer and the Viper: Valmont convinces the heroes to give him a chance to help, claiming to want to turn over a new leaf. In fact, when the chance presents itself, he grabs the Horn of Hypnos in an attempt to enslave everyone himself.
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: Said word for word by Valmont regarding his situation of having gone from a powerful crime lord to having to scrounge through garbage for food.
  • I Can't Believe I'm Saying This: When Valmont compliments Blunk's pulley system for his hideout, Irma lampshades that she can't believe that she's both agreeing with him and complimenting Blunk at the same time.
  • Out-Gambitted: Alchemy knows better than to trust Valmont's claim of wanting to change his ways, and calls Captain Black with a tip-off, while telling Blunk to pretend to accept his bribe to send him back to Earth so he can flee, instead dropping him right into Section 13 to be arrested.
  • Takes One to Kill One: Uncle always saying "magic must defeat magic" is lampshaded by Blunk, with it being suggested that it's not possible to destroy a Horn of Hypnos by non-magical means.
  • Technician Versus Performer: Alchemy has taken to a more improv-based form of creating chi spells compared to Uncle's strict adherence to doing everything by the book. The latter is acknowledged as getting the best results, but the former allows for being able to work on the fly if all the required ingredients aren’t on hand.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Drago's reaction when he and Irma end up in a Back-to-Back Badasses moment.
