Recap / Invader Zim S 2 E 5 Dibship Rising

Go To

Dib works on Tak's ship. To stop the ship from always attacking him, Dib decides to delete Tak's personality, which was downloaded into the ship, and replace it with his own. The ship thinks that it is Dib, which causes problems, which Zim takes over and attempts to drop Dib into the city cesspit. Dib implores the ship to remember his life, which works enough to save him from death, but then the ship sits there, dangling over the pit despondent, concluding that it’s a loser.

Tropes

  • Brain Uploading: Dib uploads a copy of his consciousness to the ship to overwrite the copy of Tak that's already in it. Unfortunately, it works too well and leaves the ship thinking it's the real Dib.
  • Butt-Monkey: Not only does Dib's attempt to put a copy of himself in the ship go wrong, but it ultimately decides that he's too much of a loser for it to exist as a copy of.
  • Call-Back:
    • The Dibship assumes that Dib is a robot copy made by Zim, like in "Future Dib".
    • When trying to help the Dibship break free of Zim's control, Dib reminds it of the events of "A Room With a Moose".
  • Didn't Think This Through: As part of the Villain Override, Zim rides on top of the Dibship. Dib points out he could've just been controlling Dibship from the safety of his base.
  • Driven to Suicide: The Dibship ultimately decides that being Dib is terrible, and deletes itself.
  • Failed a Spot Check: It takes Zim a minute to realize that the Dibship (disguised poorly as Dib via hologram) isn't Dib.
  • Freak Out: The Dibship throws a tantrum whenever someone points out that it's not really Dib.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Dib successfully copies his mind onto the ship, only for it to be convinced it's really him.
  • "I Know You Are in There Somewhere" Fight: Dib's appeal to the Dibship, while being taken to the cesspool. It works, albeit causing the Dibship to realize just how horrible it is being Dib and to delete itself.
  • Noodle Incident: When the Dibship shows up at school using a holographic disguise to make it look like Dib, Poonchy notes that "Dib's being all weird and giant again", indicating that this isn't the first time a giant Dib has shown up.
  • Revision: Any paranormal activity Dib mentioned beyond Zim had been up for debate at this point, but given that he mentioned fighting "Alien Ghost Bee Babies" as a flashback to the ship alongside the events of "A Room With a Moose", this implies that Dib was right about everything all along.
  • Smart Ball: The moment he learns that "Giant Dib" is actually Tak's ship, Zim immediately thinks of a scheme to use it to get rid of the real Dib.
  • Villain Override: Zim hacks the Dibship to try and use it to destroy Dib.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: A boy vomits out of a school bus window upon seeing Dibship.
