Recap / Invader Zim S 1 E 32 Abducted

Go To

Zim and GIR are abducted by a pair of aliens who mistake them for a real human and dog.

Tropes

  • Air-Vent Passageway: Zim uses the aliens' ship's air vents to reach the escape pods.
  • Aliens of London: The aliens that abduct Zim and GIR speak with overexaggerated British accents. Apparently, Monty Python members John Cleese and Eric Idle were intended to voice them, but scheduling conflicts prevented this from happening.
  • Bio-Augmentation: Parodied. The aliens believe that by duct-taping a gopher to Zim's head, they are fusing him and possibly making him more powerful.
  • Brick Joke: Zim's first and last scenes in the episode are him talking to the Tallest about how other species are tall yet dumb.
  • Cardboard Prison: The aliens don't even lock their containment pods, which is how every single one of their prisoners have escaped (save for a blob who can't reach the exit).
  • Failed Attempt at Drama: Dramatic music plays as Zim and GIR flee the aliens' ship in an escape pod... only for it to anticlimactically just drop the few feet into his front yard.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Despite Zim and GIR removing their disguises, the aliens still think they're an ordinary human and dog.
  • Here We Go Again!: The episode ends with the aliens now abducting Dib, whom they believe is an "Earth weasel".
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: For once, the Tallest are genuinely invested in what Zim has to say, since it challenges their whole world view (that tall beings are superior in all ways).
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: The aliens' disguises manage to be even worse than Zim's, literally being paper cutouts that vaguely look like humans.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: When first showing up at Zim's doorstep and having the door answered by GIR, the aliens deny being aliens, despite the fact that GIR didn't say anything about it.
  • Too Dumb to Live: The aliens are both dumb as posts, even by IZ standards.
