  • Bad Boss:
    • The Tallest force Bob to bet more money than he has just to make sure that the betting pool is balanced and they don't risk losing anything.
    • Also Zim, who volunteers to be the leader of his fellow cadets, and then goes on to sacrifice them one by one to complete the trials.
  • Boot Camp Episode: Hobo 13 is a boot camp planet.
  • The Dog Bites Back: When Bob sees how much money he'll win if Zim survives, he starts standing up to The Tallest, refusing to get a refill for them and calling them "freeloading jerks". He promptly quits his job upon officially winning, telling everyone to serve themselves from now on.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: Sergeant Hobo 678. Though actually sort of downplayed, since he objects to Zim using his teammates as cannon fodder.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: The Tallest force Bob to partake in the betting pool, betting on Zim so that when he dies they don't lose out too much money. Then Zim ends up surviving, meaning they owe Bob a fortune.
  • Hurl It into the Sun: At the end of the episode, the Tallest program Zim's new ship to fly into a sun to try and kill him (and Bob).
  • Side Bet: The Tallest open up a betting pool on how Zim will die in the course of his training, forcing Table-Headed Service Drone Bob to bet on him surviving in order to make sure they don't lose out too much regarding on the outcome. This backfires on them.
  • Sore Loser: The Tallests' reaction to Bob winning the betting pool is to strap him into Zim's ship before sending it flying towards a sun.
  • Unexplained Recovery: Zim notices that Skoodge survived being shot into space by the Almighty Tallest in "Battle Of The Planets."
Zim: I thought the Almighty Tallest killed you?
Skoodge: (nonchalantly) Yeah, but... I'm okay.
  • We Have Reserves: Zim has no problem sacrificing his team members in order to advance in the training.
