Recap / Inhumans S1E5 "Something Inhuman This Way Comes..."

Go To

With Locus being captured by them, Medusa and Black Bolt have now a real chance to finally find their family. Meanwhile, Tibor starts to question Maximus' choices.

  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Audrey, Dave's ex, doesn't buy Crystal's story of Attilan being a city on the moon despite the crazy world she is living in.
  • Asshole Victim: Reno gets shot in the head by Tua after showing him Ted's body. Given his jealousy of Karnak and that he was going to kill him and Jen, it's hard to feel sorry for him.
  • Bait-and-Switch: A group of Inhumans in black cloaks surround Tibor, who thinks Maximus sent them to silence him for questioning his orders. Instead, they were going after Tibor because they thought he was an unquestioning ally of Maximus. Now they want his help to overthrow Maximus.
  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Averted, Auran looks quite gruesomely burned after the explosion. Her healing factor takes care of it however.
  • Big Damn Heroes: When Karnak and Jen are both incapacitated by Tua and his goons, Gorgon sweeps in to save the day.
  • Bonding over Missing Parents: Medusa says that losing their respective parents at such a young age is part of what allowed Black Bolt and Medusa to get so close.
  • Bullet Catch: Or rather, Bullet redirecting, when Reno tries to shoot Karnak and he deflects it with his hand. Unfortunately, it hits Jen instead.
  • Cassandra Truth: Karnak knows that nobody of the drug dealers will believe where he is from and he is right, as they then start to rough him up.
  • Country Mouse: Karnak is completely unaware of the effects of pot.
Jen: Yeah, those "post-conjugal endorphins" really tend to make you hungry.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: When Black Bolt wants to know what happened to Medusa's hair, she starts describing it in a way that sounds like she was raped. Louise, not knowing that they're talking about the hair, looks visibly uncomfortable at one point. note
  • Eye Scream: Dr. Declan's assistent gets killed by Auran with a scalpel to the eye when he tries to help his boss (who gets choked by her).
  • I Did What I Had to Do: How Medusa tries to justify the caste system to Locus.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Auran learns that Declan is working for Maximus. Then she inadvertently reveals that she's taking orders from Maximus.
    • The rest of the Royal Family learn that Crystal is on Earth.
  • Irony: Louise comments on the irony of Medusa marrying Black Bolt, the son of the people who banished her parents for fighting against the caste system.
  • Motive Rant: Maximus gives one to the statue of his dead father.
  • Negated Moment of Awesome: Karnak is able to perfectly hit the bullet so that it slices in half. Unfortunately, part of the shrapnel hits Jen in the gut.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Karnak, when he sees that the bullet he deflected has hit Jen.
    • Reno, when Tua is about to shoot him.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Locus confronts Medusa and Black Bolt with their unfair caste system. It actually seems to make something of an impression on Black Bolt.
  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: Reno gets shot in the head by Tua, after he shows him where he disposed of Ted's body. No tears were shed. Tua outright states afterward that he cannot trust a man willing to murder his own partners.
  • Sanity Slippage: A lifetime of resentment and the guilt of going against his own family appears to be taking their toll on Maximus's sanity. After an argument with Tibor, he starts yelling a Motive Rant at a statue of his dead father. Once he realizes what he is doing, he looks more than a little disturbed by what he just did.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Karnak needs to suture Jen's wound to keep her from bleeding out, so he strips a palm frond as a makeshift solution. Jen suggests just using a needle and thread from her travel sewing kit that she keeps on her since their clothing tends to snag and rip on all the trees.
  • Villain Ball: Tua kills Reno for killing and attempting to kill his partners. Then he and his mooks start hunting Karnak and Jen, thinking they're headed to the cops.
  • We Have to Get the Bullet Out!: Jen actually questions it when Karnak goes through with it, asking if it wouldn't better to simply wait with that until they are at a hospital, but he still goes through with it.
