Recap / Infinity Train: Voyage of Wisteria: The Comm-Switch Car

Go To

Just one car left until the Quarto enters Hell while Gladion and Tokio reveal the truth about their adventures.

  • Ambiguous Syntax: Warbler states she wasn't sure if the rabbit who made the graffiti was for his boy friend or boyfriend.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Quite a few from Titus and Warbler.
    • Titus: He asks Lexi if destroying the picture of Grace and Simon or deciding to tear apart Simon's book would give his son the catharsis he seeks.
    • Warbler: When Raboot complains how insensitive Goh was, Warbler asks if that's how Goh is acting now.
  • Brick Joke: When Chloe sees a drawing of Specter for the White Gestalt, she questions if the "Specter of the Black Forest" is real.
  • Call-Back:
    • Lexi and Goh get to stare at the photos of Grace and Simon and Chloe respectively in Azada.
    • When Raboot starts speaking like a human, Goh starts remembering his nightmare therapy when Raboot called him out for his insensitivity.
    • Chloe tells Tokio that Grace gave the celestial bronze knife to her and then it's in Amelia's hands. Tokio bitterly notes how unfair it is that Grace killed Utahoshi and didn't give a damn yet saved Chloe from Walter after realizing her actions.
    • Amelia winces when she sees that the kid's restaurant in the Comm-Link Car has a ball pit in it.
  • Cover Innocent Eyes and Ears: Burnet has covered her baby boy's ears over Gladion and Tokio's presentation.
  • Double Take: As the Quarto leave Azada for the next car, Amelia somehow starts stating her name twice. When she speaks again, she realizes that's the only thing she can say.
  • Drama Queen: Drizzile celebrates his new voice by "giving voice to the emptiness inside of him" and quoting Shakespearean angst.
  • Dramatic Irony: After the Wham Line, everything about the train-side of the chapter is seen in this light.
    • Lexi vows to hurt Grace for everything she did to him if he ever sees her again. Turns out he has, as Grace is now Warbler. And he won't be able to cut her arm and see it bleed cause Warbler doesn't have arms.
    • Warbler questions what happened to the rabbits who had a date in the Music Car...if only she remembered that, as Grace, she killed Utahoshi and sent Kisaragi into a mad spiral to destroy the Apex by any means necessary.
    • Warbler mentions how Goh is a "ten-year-old kid fresh into the big world screwing up royally". Given who she used to be...
    • Lexi always makes a point to say how Grace was nothing but a vicious corrupter who didn't care about others, but as Warbler, she's much more beneficial and empathetic to Goh than Lexi is.
  • The Ending Changes Everything: The Wham Line essentially becomes this for Warbler as a whole.
  • Foreshadowing: There is a lot about the reveal of this chapter.
    • When Warbler starts speaking, Hazel perks up at what she sounds like.
    • Warbler mentioning how ten-year-olds mess up and how she knew about the rabbit and his "boy friend" in which Goh recalls the graffiti even though it was before her time. Warbler wouldn't know...her past self Grace would.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Trip muses that if Hazel wasn't seen as a child at first, Grace would've just kicked her off the Train.
  • Hope Spot: This is why Raboot hates Goh so much; every single time he wants to do something good, Goh is shown to not make the connection and crush him. So why should he ever get his hopes up if Goh puts him down? However, Warbler gets him to see reason, primarily by pointing out the Goh from then and the Goh from now are not one and the same.
  • Hypocritical Humor: After Raboot states how he'll get strong to protect Goh and doesn't regret chasing after the boy, Drizzile notes that the bunny is being dramatic. When Drizzile started speaking, he started waking Shakespeare.
  • Ignored Epiphany: Downplayed with Lexi. His father convinces him that pursuing his revenge against Simon and Grace is pointless and will only give him pain and grief, so he has to move on. Lexi takes this to heart... In regards to Simon. For Grace, he continues to hold a grudge.
  • I Just Want to Be Badass: Drizzile wanted to evolve right away into Inteleon because he got into a spy series featuring a sniper...while Goh was in the hospital, and he fantasized about popping the terrible thoughts hovering over Goh's head like balloons.
  • Internal Reveal: Goh learns about Chloe's first story.
  • Kick the Dog: Trip discusses that Grace would've done it to Hazel if the girl wasn't originally "seen" as a human.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Before the final scene, Gladion notes that maybe for "him" at least, there are no more surprises. The audience then learns the truth about Warbler.
  • Mood Whiplash: The Comm-Switch car is absolute hilarity when the humans have to speak their names and we hear Drizzile waxing Shakespeare. Then the final scenes has Hazel looking horrified when Warbler speaks, with the Wham Line cementing how bad it is.
  • "Not Making This Up" Disclaimer: Gladion elaborates that yes there was a passenger named Specter and he was fused with a lightning bolt.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • Lexi comments that something is up with how the Apex aren't putting up much of a struggle going to the Hazbin Car...and Hazel is quieter than usual after overhearing Warbler talk. Moreover, they're also going straight into the path of a White Gestalt member that has a clear grudge against them.
    • In Azada, when his father gives him Simon's book, Lexi is shocked that his father didn't give it life yet.
  • Pokémon Speak: The Comm-switch car enforces this with Goh, Amelia and Hazel only able to say their names and Raboot, Drizzile and Warbler speaking like humans. Lexi is the only one unaffected because he's not partaking in the challenge.
  • A Rare Sentence: Gladion stating that there was a passenger named Specter who was fused with a lightning bolt and then clarifying that it actually happened.
  • The Reveal: Warbler has Grace's voice, meaning that the Apex leader died and is now reincarnated as Goh's denizen partner.
  • Story-Breaker Power: Why Lexi sits out the challenge...as a shapeshifter, it'd be too easy for him to cheese the challenges. That, and he's the odd one out.
  • Stunned Silence: An entire meeting room that has five adults is absolutely shocked at what Gladion and Tokio did against the Apex.
  • Take Our Word for It: We don't know the extent of what White Gestalt did in the Tape Care, but everyone's reactions to what happened is that it was horrible.
  • Tempting Fate: As they leave Azada, Amelia hopes that the next car isn't as bad as the Christmas Ornaments car. It's not; it's worse.
    • Gladion lampshades that after everything that happened to him, there won't be any more surprises. And then...
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Drizzile reacts like this when he has to team up with Hazel.
  • Vengeance Feels Empty: Titus convinces Lexi that pursuing his anger against Grace and Simon any further won't make things any better for him, and he has to move forward with them out of the picture. Lexi takes this to heart, and ultimately decides to give life to Simon's manuscript before leaving. But only Simon, not Grace.
  • The Unapologetic: What pisses Lexi off the most is that neither Grace nor Simon apologized to him for tearing him to pieces and dumping him in the dirt.
Lexi: ....Eight years alone, eight years trapped, eight years reminded of that mistake ...and he never even apologized. Grace never apologized! She egged him on even as I begged them to let me go see you, even did the first tear herself! Simon did not regret a single thing he did throughout his entire life. And Grace never even said it to my face at how she messed up and hurt me, hurt us. As if she decides who lives and who dies!
  • Wham Episode: The author states this is the equivalent of "The Color Clock Car". She's right.
  • Wham Line: The entire chapter is a breather and hilarity at Pokémon speaking like humans and humans stating their names. But then the last two lines of the chapter changes everything.
No, it was the voice Warbler had when they spoke.
    Grace’s voice.
