Tropes in this chapter include:

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: The thief in the fairytale wished for darkness to protect him from seeing his death. The shadow butterfly grants it by taking his eyesight so he goes to his execution blind.
  • Big Word Shout: Gladion screams "WHY?!!" when the tornado girl crushes on him.
  • Butterfly of Death and Rebirth: Butterflies factor into both the fairytale and the story proper.
  • Call-Forward: Gladion questions some of the more absurd cars that could be created by the Train. One of them is a car with ornaments that badly sing Christmas carols.
  • Deliberately Monochrome: The Spiral Car is black and white like a manga.
  • Double Entendre: Lana tries to explain what Kukui and Burnet are doing with a lot of these.
  • Let Us Never Speak of This Again: Gladion requests this of Larkspur regarding the Spiral Car.
  • Motor Mouth: Gladion talks like this after escaping the Spiral Car and asking Larkspur to not mention this again.
  • Mood Whiplash: After the horrifying sight of seeing Uzumaki on the Infinity Train, Gladion babbles on about how they will not speak of this incident before going, "Ooh, a castle!" and both he and Larkspur enter the Toy Brick Car.
  • Noodle Incident: Ash is apparently the record-holder for "having nothing to do with the explosions, your honor."
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Ash's fight with Marshadow.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: Gladion on seeing a snail-boy for the first time.
  • Villainous Crush: The tornado girl in the center of the whirlpool village has one for Gladion.
  • Wham Shot: The arrival of the Ultra Recon Squad at the end of the chapter, changing the Ultra Beast arc.
