Recap / I Zombie S 2 E 4 Even Cowgirls Get The Black And Blues

Go To

Liv tries to solve the murder of a Southern waitress/amateur singer. Meanwhile, Blaine tracks down the drug dealer responsible for cutting the Utopium from the boat party.

  • Bait-and-Switch: After Liv finishes her performance at The Slow Roll, Matt is seen eerily staring at her while tense music plays. Matt then sneakily follows Liv into the parking lot, gets behind her... and tells her that he thinks her song was nice before walking away.
  • Continuity Nod: Peyton's still coming to grips with Liv's reveal as a zombie.
    • Also mentioned by Dale Bozzio, the FBI agent, are disappearances involving not only the previous zombies that Major's killed, but also Alan York and Terrence Fowler from the previous episode.
    • Major seems to have adopted the basset hound of Terrence Fowler, a zombie he killed. Ravi names the dog "Minor" as a joke.
  • Country Mouse: What Liv turns to in this episode.
  • Heel–Faith Turn: Gabriel, the drug dealer.
  • Honor Among Thieves: None of the Utopium dealers interviewed are eager to talk to Peyton due to fear of Mr. Boss.
  • Groin Attack: Lacey gave this to her boss Rick for being a little too friendly.
  • Jerkass Realization: Major realises how bad his Utopium problem has got when he goes to buy drugs and finds the dealer is a kid from the shelter, who laughs and jokes, 'You used to try to keep us off drugs!'
  • Law of Conservation of Detail: The escaped prisoner keeps getting mentioned throughout the episode.
  • Moment Killer: Peyton walking in on Ravi with his girlfriend Stephanie is this. Somewhat averted when Stephanie seems rather impressed by Ravi's taste in former dates.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: The victim was killed by a random intruder, so Liv and Clive's investigation of her associates for most of the episode turns out to be pointless. Depressingly lampshaded:
Liv: So Lacy was just in the wrong place at the wrong time?
Clive: It happens. Try not to think about it too much.
  • Shout-Out: One of the chapters in the episode is Pawn of the Dead
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Gabriel is the one who made the tainted Utopium responsible for the zombies.
  • Villain Ball: Blaine finally slips up. After torture fails to get Gabriel to talk, Blaine zombifies him...and kicks him out on the street, telling him to come back when he's ready to talk. Not only is Blaine ignoring the possibility of a zombie hunter finding Gabriel (two of Blaine's clients are missing), he seems completely unable to recognize that if there was ever a zombie who would willingly starve to mindlessness, it's Gabriel.
