Recap / I Carly S 03 Ep 11 I Enrage Gibby

Go To

iEnrage Gibby is the 11th episode in the 3rd season of iCarly.

When Freddie attempts to show Gibby's girlfriend Tasha some techniques, he falls on her and Gibby thinks she's cheating on him, so he challenges Freddie to a fight.

Meanwhile, Spencer was mistaken to be dead by the newspapers and soon decides to fake his death to make money.

Tropes:

  • Big "SHUT UP!": When Freddie tries to explain himself about how he really fell on top of Tasha, Gibby cuts him off by saying, "You shut your mouth, Benson!"
  • Big "WHAT?!": Gibby shouts two of these in a row when he comes into the iCarly studio to see what he thinks is Freddie making out with Tasha.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Among those who think Spencer is dead is Veronica, the girl he dated in "iMake Sam Girlier".
    • Freddie's profile for the iCarly Fight Night has him in a clown costume from "iTwins".
  • Chekhov's Gun: The rotting sandwich cam at the beginning of the episode. It recorded Tasha accidentally tripping and falling on Freddie, which is what he uses to prove his innocence to Gibby.
  • The Comically Serious: Even at his most ruthless, Gibby still hasn't lost his comedic timing.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When Carly brings up the peanut butter and jelly sandwich still being recorded during the webcast, Freddie realizes during the webcast the rotting sandwich cam caught footage of Tasha tripping and falling on him, and uses such to show what really happened to Gibby.
  • Faking the Dead: Spencer does this throughout the episode.
  • Jerkass Realization:
    • Gibby completely overreacted when he thought his girlfriend was cheating on him with Freddie. However, after being shown footage of what really happened (Tasha tripped and fell on Freddie), Gibby realized what an unreasonable jerk he was to Freddie and apologized.
    • This also happened with Oliver Dixon, who originally wrote a bad review of Spencer's sculptures on the Seattle Tribute, but after learning that Spencer "died", he came to realize he was wrong to criticize Spencer's work and wanted to buy one of the sculptures.
  • Mistaken for Dying: Spencer's subplot revolves around this.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: The "Let's Watch Food Rot" segment, which is simply Carly and Sam dismantling a PB&J sandwich from Gibby and having Freddie record it over four weeks, and when the time is up, it will be edited into a time-lapse video where it is shown in only thirty seconds. The segment turns out to be a Chekhov's Gun, as it records Tasha tripping and falling on Freddie, which is what Freddie uses to prove to Gibby he's not trying to steal her.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Freddie trips and falls on Tasha, and when Gibby sees them lying on each other, he believes she cheated on him and challenges Freddie to fight.
  • One Dialogue, Two Conversations: Carly's conversation with her downstairs neighbor when he comes to console her over Spencer's "death". She thinks he's just talking about the bad review.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Gibby completely loses it when he thinks Freddie is trying to kiss Tasha.
  • Wham Line: From Carly: "I was gonna say we'll be checking in on the peanut butter and jelly sandwich that's been rotting here for over a week, constantly recorded by Freddie's surveillance camera."
  • What Does She See in Him?: Both Carly and Freddie are very incredulous when they find out that Tasha, a very attractive girl, is dating Gibby. Sam already knew this from an earlier episode, yet she is also is skeptical about it, claiming that something is wrong with her. When Carly awkwardly tries to defend Gibby's supposed attractiveness and personality, Sam and Freddie slowly look at her in disbelief. Carly then immediately agrees.
