Recap / I Carly S 03 Ep 07 I Move Out

Go To

iMove Out is the 7th episode in the 3rd season of iCarly.

When his mother embarrassed him one too many times, Freddie decides to move out into his own apartment. During this, the iCarlys start a pet photography business which gets accused and vandalized by a rival business for stealing from them.

Tropes:

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Mrs. Benson is at her worst of the trope in this episode. She storms on the iCarly set in the middle of a live feed and forces Freddie to eat his vegetables in front of the audience, and when picking him up from school and having an argument with him in front of many students, she notices the crowd and shows them his baby pictures. In the end, she finally agrees to tone it down so Freddie will move back in.
  • Ambiguously Gay: The petographers seem to live in the same apartment, have slightly feminine voices, and have a job that involves photographing pets. They are also seen getting back from dinner at a fancy restaurant that is implied to have been between the two of them. They also share custody of Harmoo.
  • Blackmail: After Sam kidnaps Harmoo as revenge for the petographers trashing their studio, the iCarly trio threatens to shave Harmoo if the petographers get the police involved.
Olive: It says, "If you call the cops, we shave the cat."
  • The Bus Came Back: Officer Carl from "iWantMoreViewers" returns in this episode.
  • Captain Obvious: After the petographers are seen leaving the iCarly studio, Carly and Sam hurriedly enter and see the whole place trashed. Carly angrily mutters, "I bet I know who did this." Sam responds by incredulously giving her a Fascinating Eyebrow.
  • Cats Are Mean: Harmoo, the petogrophers' cat, instantly develops a dislike for Spencer and attacks him whenever he's present. Zigzagged, as he doesn't react that badly to anyone else.
  • Continuity Nod: Officer Carl brings up the events of "iWant More Viewers" when Spencer made that "Pee on Carl" sign.
  • Chekhov's Gag: Spencer getting attacked by Harmoo is a Running Gag throughout the episode, yet the fact that the cat tries to scratch his face every time he sees Spencer is the key to getting Harmoo off of the ledge.
  • Horrible Housing: Freddie's new room is absolutely crappy; it's minuscule, there is NO bathroom (Freddie justifies he still has a sink), and the room contains the elevator motor so whenever the elevator is being used, a loud noise activates. Freddie still insists on staying there in favor of putting up with his mother's rules. Also, the rent is reasonable.
  • Hypocritical Humor: When Freddie comes to sleep at the Shay apartment and admits that he's afraid to sleep alone in his new apartment, Spencer tells him he's too old to be scared (though he still lets him stay). However, when Freddie asks, Spencer admits that he isn't sleeping in his room because he saw a spider in there.
  • I Warned You: The petographers spray-paint this on the iCarly monitor as part of the trashed set.
  • Noodle Incident: Carly, Sam, and Spencer were banned from the Frozen Oval after Sam pimp-slapped a guy in front of his family (because he kept bumping into her). Downplayed in that we're told the basics of what happened, but aren't given any details and don't see it. We only know that Carly was annoyed while Sam and Spencer thought it was hilarious.
  • Police Are Useless: Officer Carl refuses to arrest the petographers after they vandalized the iCarly studio because they treated him well when he was a client there. Then he gives Carly a ticket because the studio's fake car doesn't have a license plate.
  • Running Gag: Spencer getting attacked by Harmoo.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Mrs. Benson attempting to de-wax Freddie's ears while napping is enough to push his insanity over the mark and declare he's moving out.
