As Marshall continues to approach the wedding, he recites three rhyming bedtime stories to Marvin in order to get him to sleep.
This episode provides examples of:
- The Bus Came Back: Simon shows up, cleaned up, suited up, with a full head of hair, and engaged to Louise Marsh. (Maybe.)
- Call-Back: "Marshall Vs. The Machines" starts to play when Marshall realizes he could walk the rest of the way to the inn.
- Department of Redundancy Department: Barney lists off the qualities of a girl - her boobs, her rack, and her chest.
- Green-Eyed Monster: When Robin finds out her ex, Simon, is engaged, she steals his wedding cake.
- Least Rhymable Word: Marshall panics when he ends a sentence on Canada. His busmate saves the day with a rap ending in Janitor.
- Nursery Rhyme: Marshall tells three stories about the gang to Marvin, but presents them as nursery rhymes.
- Rhymes on a Dime: Marshall has become incredibly skilled at improvising rhyme because it's the only way to get Marvin to sleep.
- Rhyming Episode: Every line of dialogue in the episode rhymes to fit the "bedtime story" theme.
- Serious Business: In the present, everyone gets on board with Marshall's on-going rhymes to get Marvin to sleep. In the past, Robin's sad cake theft turns into a party, with a crowd cheering her on.
- Special Edition Title: The normal theme song is replaced by a lullaby version.
- Subverted Rhyme Every Occasion: In order to hide some swears and the word lesbian.Angry Bus Passenger: Oh, man, now I'll never make it to Nantucket.
- Unreliable Narrator: Marshall can't remember which break up Robin was on when she met Simon. Also, he wasn't there, so he might not have been that pretty.
