Ted aims to prove his old architecture professor who never believed in him wrong before the opening of his building. Barney gets jinxed by Marshall, and Robin finally talks to Patrice about Barney.
This episode provides examples of:
- Big "NO!": Barney does a silent one after Marshall jinxes him.
- Continuity Nod: The last time Barney was jinxed, he broke the jinx. Later that day, he got hit by that bus.
- Noodle Incident: Marshall mentions he tried to get revenge at his prom... through dance.
- Rage Against the Mentor: Ted is desperate to prove himself to his old professor, who said he'd never be an architect. Ted has clearly modeled himself after the man: clothes, hair, douchey pretension.
- Revenge Before Reason: Despite fearing that Daryl may be dangerous, Marshall agrees to go along with him rather than free Barney from the jinx to get them out of it, still angry over the Frank Viola incident.
- Serious Business: Barney accepts the tenets of the jinx. To the limit. So do the rest of the gang.
- Shout-Out: The Pit is straight up The Silence of the Lambs.
