Barney learns that his performance in bed with the woman he lost his virginity to was less than satisfactory, resulting in him losing his "mojo" around women. Meanwhile, the rest of the gang joins the gym.
This episode provides examples of:
- Armoured Closet Gay: James in flashbacks dressed and talked like the typical jock.
- The Cameo: Heidi Klum is the one who gives advice to Barney on how to get over his Yips. Ted and Barney also run into several other Victoria's Secret models, including Miranda Kerr and Alessandra Ambrosio.
- Call-Back: Barney revealed that he lost his virginity to Rhonda back in "First Time in New York". However, it causes a Series Continuity Error, as he said that it happened in his bed, when this episode shows that it was in Rhonda's.
- Continuity Nod: In the flashback to Barney losing his virginity to Rhonda, he tells James that he doesn't know how to seduce a woman because "it's not like I'm a Backstreet Boy." Barney previously mentioned being a Backstreet Boys fan in "Something Borrowed".
- Double Standard Rape: Female on Male: Rhonda blackmails a gay man into sex and it's all played for laughs.
- Drill Sergeant Nasty: Trish, Marshall's trainer turned out to be very mean and strict.
- Have I Mentioned I Am Heterosexual Today?: James had to mention constantly how much he loved his girlfriend right after implying many times that he thought sex with women was gross and scary.
- Lousy Lovers Are Losers: Discussed when Barney discovers that Rhonda, the older woman he lost his virginity to, who told him he had "rocked her world", had actually exaggerated because his brother had asked her to. Despite bedding many women since then, Barney loses his confidence over this revelation... until he sleeps with Rhonda again and this time actually does [rock her world. Justified, since Barney has since gotten a lot of experience in love-making since that first time, proving that practice makes perfect.
- Series Continuity Error: Along with the one regarding Barney losing his virginity to Rhonda, Rhonda also calls Mrs. Stinson "Patty"; her name would be solidified as "Loretta" in "The Stinsons".
- Unresolved Sexual Tension: Discussed by Ted. After hearing Robin's overly aggressive grunting while bench pressing, he says that she effectively killed his remaining attraction toward her. She throws this back at him later when the trainer Trish makes him cry.
