Directed by: Greg Yaitanes

Written by: Leonard Dick

A man is ill at home as his wife takes care of him. The wife falls ill and is taken to Princeton-Plainsboro. As soon as she's a little bit better, she wants to go back home to take care of her husband. Dr. Taub gets an idea: they should bring the husband to the hospital.

Dr. House asks about "brown and bi" (referring to Dr. Kutner and Dr. Hadley, respectively), where are they? Dr. Foreman and Dr. Hadley go to Dr. Kutner's apartment, where they find him dead from a gunshot to the right temple.

Foreman suggests they hand off this week's case to another doctor, but House thinks they should just keep working.

Dr. Cuddy informs House and his team that she's hired a grief counselor (whom they won't see) and offers them bereavement leave (which they won't take).

Hadley, House and Foreman visit Mr. and Mrs. Kutner, their colleague's adoptive parents. House, of course, offends the Kutners, and Foreman orders him back to the hospital.

House becomes convinced Kutner was murdered.

Sarcoidosis mentioned as a possible diagnosis late in the episode.

House gets the wife to confess to an affair in Rio de Janeiro.

Pretty much all of Dr. Kutner's colleagues attend his funeral, but House doesn't (Taub also stays at the hospital).

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Cue O'Clock: Kutner does not turn up for work and Taub puts forward an obviously fictitious cover story for him, saying that his dog is sick and he will be there by lunch. At lunchtime, House looks at his watch and says "Look at the time. It's half past Taub-was-lying-about-Kutner."
  • Wham Episode: Kutner's suicide.
