Recap / House S 5 E 18 Here Kitty

Go To

Directed by: Juan Jose Campanella

Written by: Peter Blake

A nurse (Judy Greer) starts having a seizure. Dr. Cuddy tells Dr. House the nurse has urinated on herself. That's normal... except the liquid's green.

Dr. Kutner and Dr. Taub go the nurse's house and find a drug with green urine as a side effect. Taub's sure the nurse faked the seizure and the green urine. House says it's difficult to pee on cue.

House subjects the nurse to flashing lights to provoke epilepsy, and she pretends to have another seizure. House has lost interest in the case. But then the patient blurts out: "A cat predicted my death."

Cuddy and House watch a news report about a cat that predicts nursing home patients' deaths. House is skeptical but keeps going with the case. Cuddy urges House to discharge the nurse soon.

House brings the cat and a cigar to the hospital. Actually, the cigar was one of several for Taub, sent to him by the CEO of a laser scalpel startup, Neil Zane (Christopher Moynihan), an old high school buddy of Taub's.

Dr. Foreman suggests the cat may be the cause of the "predicted" deaths.

House brings the nurse out of the hospital in a wheelchair, blows cigar smoke in her face, and tells her about the things he found in her purse: horoscopes, good luck charms, things of that sort.

House demands Taub clean the litter box, but Taub refuses and leaves. Taub goes see his new CEO friend in his office. Over drinks, Taub confesses to his new friend that he had an affair with the daughter of one of the partners at his plastic surgery practice. His partners signed a non-disclosure agreement, but Taub signed a non-compete agreement.

The nurse's urine is now another unusual color. House brings an umbrella and a ladder to his office.

Taub wants to work for his old friend, but he has already hired a chief medical officer. Taub visits his office again, but he isn't there.

The cat jumps on House's computer at the same time he has a freeze frame of the news report with the cat on an old woman's hospital bed.

House figures out the cat was just trying to keep warm. Wilson dismisses the whole thing as "a completely trivial mystery."

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Excrement Statement: House is disgusted when he realizes he sat on cat urine and assumes that Kutner made the cat pee on House's chair. Kutner subtly implies that it was not the cat who wet the chair.
  • Jumping the Shark: House sets up a track for a toy car to go down and jump over a toy shark on a bedpan, suggesting perhaps that this show, House, M.D., has jumped the shark figuratively as well as literally.
  • Münchausen Syndrome: Dr. Taub believes the nurse faked the seizure, trying to stump Dr. House with her strange symptoms.
  • Shout-Out: To Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!.
