Recap / Homestar Runner The Name Of This Cartoon Would Ruin It

Go To

Strong Bad and The Cheat's latest money making scheme is interupted by Homestar trying out a new way of "facing" life.

  • Cheated Angle: The main gag of the episode subverts this, where Homestar Runner finally learns how to face forwards, and The Cheat wants to do the same.
  • Did Not Think This Through: As it turns out, Front-Facing Homestar hasn't learned to drink.
  • Dumbass No More: Front-Facing Homestar seems to be somewhat smarter than usual, aside from the occasional malapropism.
  • Magical Incantation: Homestar feels the need to recite the words "Zambledom, zumbledom, turtleneck stew!" when switching between front-facing and side-facing mode.
Strong Bad: What the crap was that?!
Homestar: I have to do a spell!
    Strong Bad: Ugh...
    • In one of the Stingers, Strong Bad tries a similar incantation to get The Cheat back to normal. It results in Front-Facing The Cheat, much to Strong Bad's horror.
  • Easter Egg: Four of these overall:
    • Main Page gets (literally) crashed by a Front-Facing Homestar shaped cruise ship.
    • Brambi and Wenda are revealed to be snowmen voiced by Homestar.
    • Strong Bad tries to get The Cheat, stuck in Back-Facing Mode, to normal.
    • Stickers based on Front-Facing Homestar's mixed-up sayings.
  • Malaproper:
    • Front-Facing Homestar offers such bizarre, mixed-up aphorisms as "Shine like a dime in the buff"note  and "Taking the pool by the horns"note .
    • Strong Bad is so disgusted by Back-Facing Homestar's butt-dance, he gets his exclamation of horror mixed up.
Strong Bad: MY HORROR! THE EYES! Er, wait.
  • Ponzi: Front-Facing Homestar shows off his new "forward facing" attitude by helping Strong Bad turn his simple scheme to get idiots to pay for having snowballs thrown at them into a snowball-reselling pyramid scheme.
  • Self-Deprecation: The short pokes fun at how Homestar and The Cheat's designs are exclusively based around Cheated Angles. For The Cheat in particular, he's unable to face forwards until The Stinger, and when he finally does, he looks even more awkward than Homestar, because Homestar Runner doesn't have any reference material for a front-facing The Cheat: Homestar's puppet in the puppet shorts, as well as his 3D model from Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People, are meant to be viewed at any angle, whereas even in puppet/3D model form, The Cheat is still depicted at a Cheated Angle.
  • Shaking the Rump: Homestar does "Every! Single! Butt! Dance! All of Them at Once!" as Back-Facing Homestar, much to Strong Bad's digust.
  • Spoiler Title: Parodied; the short is officially titled "The Name of This Cartoon Would Ruin It" (and listed as such on Youtube) to avoid giving away that the cartoon is about Homestar showing off his ability to face frontwards. Though it's listed on the Flash Toons menu as "Front Facing", and it ends with a Close on Title with "Front-Facing Homestar".
