(Coach Z passes out, cue Record Needle Scratch) - Brick Joke: Near the beginning of the cartoon, Strong Sad claims that his brothers lock him in the bathtub every Decemberween. Strong Sad shows up again during the musical number at the end of the cartoon, and Strong Bad wonders "Hey, who the crap let Strong Sad out?"
- Brutal Honesty: Homestar annoys Marzipan by mocking her ideas for Decemberween presents (which include a Jews' harp, a sponge, or Chex party mix).Homestar: Like, I don't even want to see what you got me this year.
Marzipan: (angrily) Why don't you go bother somebody else? - Comically Missing the Point: Homestar rejects several obvious gifts for Strong Bad (like an autographed copy of Frampton Comes Alive, a pair of gold-plated oven mitts, and a Strong Sad voodoo doll) in favor of Deep Impact on DVD, because Strong Bad liked it so much the first time Homestar got it for him.
- Inspiration Nod: One of the gifts Homestar considers is a copy of Tag Team Wrestling for the NES, the game whose "Strong Bads" inspired Strong Bad's name and character design.
- It's the Best Whatever, Ever!: After giving Strong Bad his gift, Homestar remarks "This is the best Decemberween ever!"
- My New Gift Is Lame:
- Strong Bad objects to getting yet another copy of Deep Impact on DVD from Homestar.
- Meanwhile, Strong Sad is new to the concept of Decemberween presents, lamenting that the only thing he ever gets from his brothers is "locked in the bath-tub".
- And then there's Marzipan's gift from Coach Z, a Coach Z scratch-n-sniff calendar.Marzipan: Coach Z, this is nasty!

- The cartoon opens with a parody of the CBS "special" jingle, followed by a parody of the wall scene from A Charlie Brown Christmas.
- The Cheat gets a gift that causes his head to explode, likely a reference to Jokey Smurf's exploding gift boxes on The Smurfs (1981).
- Soapbox Sadie: Marzipan is busy making signs to protest Decemberween being too commercialized and that the holiday "kills bunnies".
- Worst. Whatever. Ever!: After getting his gift from Homestar, Strong Bad moans "This is the worst Decemberween ever!"
- Your Answer to Everything: Apparently, Coach Z's answer to everything is "It's like a great sports play, you can't just rush into the score zone!"
