Tropes

  • Big Damn Heroes: Homestar and Pom Pom are saved from Subject X by the Green Goblin.
  • Bindle Stick: The gravestone of a guy named "Plutis" has one of these, apparently confirming Strong Bad's conjecture about a time when hobos ruled the world.
  • Brick Joke: When Coach Z tells Bubs that being in the presence of his dead relatives want to make him start a horror themed rap group and call himself "Coach Zgor Mortizzzz", Bubs points out the grave of another one of his relatives actually named Zgor, telling Coach Z to show some respect. Later, when Strong Bad is searching the cemetery for a corpse for a cool name to reanimate, Strong Mad votes on ...Zgor.
    • Another one comes when Marzipan photographs Strong Sad, but he doesn't show up in the photos, leading him to believe he willed himself to death. The cartoon ends with a phony In Memoriam to Strong Sad, complete with one of the mentioned blank photos.
  • Comically Missing the Point: As he explores the graveyard with Pom Pom, Homestar seems to believe at first that he's at one of the Disney Theme Parks. "Don't forget, we parked in the Goofy lot!"
  • Continuity Nod: Homestar announcing "Yahoo Serious-ly Pom Pom, I'm about to pee my pants," is a nod to "A Jumping Jack Contest".
  • Dance Party Ending: The cartoon ends with everyone dancing to an "extended dance remix of the Goblin song".
  • Everyone Is Related: Coach Z claims that his good great-aunt and Bubs great-great granduncle are the same person (somehow). A skeptical Bubs remarks that would make them "sixth-fourth-second-fifth cousins, thrice removed".
  • Glamour Failure: Strong Sad fails to show up in the photos of him Marzipan takes, leading him to believe he successfully willed himself to death.
  • I Don't Like the Sound of That Place: Homestar and Pom Pom start their search for the Goblin at "Snarling Hungry Sheep Hill".
  • It's the Best Whatever, Ever!: Strong Bad thinks that "Subject X" is "the coolest name ever."
  • Lampshade Hanging: After several Halloweens of going unnoticed, Homestar finally voices his concern on the fact that Marzipan keeps dressing up as dudes.
  • My Sister Is Off-Limits: Coach Z suggests that, since they're only distant cousins, it'd still be okay for him to date Bubs' sister. Bubs responds by punching Coach Z square in the face mid-sentence.
  • Noodle Implements: Strong Bad's plot to revive a zombie involves jumper cables and a jar of pickled monkey fingers.
  • Oh, No... Not Again!: Homestar mistakes the Carnivorous Undead Sheep for The Cheat, shouting "The Cheat's got rabies again!"
  • Raising the Steaks: The gang is stalked by a Carnivorous Undead Sheep, AKA "Subject X".
  • Security Cling: Homestar jumps into Pom Pom's arms when the two are attacked by the Carnivorous Undead Sheep.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: When hearing Subject X's roar, Homestar and Strong Bad separately guess that it's the result of The Cheat contracting rabies.
  • Unfortunate Names: Strong Bad, wanting a reanimated zombie minion with a really cool name, is unimpressed by the names of the dead people in the cemetery.
Strong Bad: "Jimnelius Hog-chigger"? "Hebby Screbby"? Is there some secret period in history when hobos ruled the Earth that I'm unaware of?
