- Book Ends: The cartoon opens with Strong Bad repeatedly shouting "The Cheat" with increasing speed. The cartoon ends with Bubs repeatedly and rapidly chanting "The End".
- Brown Bag Mask: Homestar puts one of the bags over his head when he realizes his attempt to look like a "cool guy" has failed and everyone else has left.
- Cringe Comedy: Homestar rather awkwardly tries to be a "cool guy" by hanging out with Strong Bad and his lackeys, but just ends up embarrassing himself.
- Forbidden Fruit: Strong Bad piques Homestar's curiosity by pretending to be "looking at a thing in a bag", but not letting him see what it is.Strong Bad: It's for me, and The Cheat, and Strong Mad to look at.
Homestar: Oh, I'm not any of those. - Laborious Laziness: Strong Bad creates a convoluted scheme to trick Homestar into getting drinks for himself, Strong Mad, and The Cheat, which involves going out to the Stick and pretending to be looking at a thing in a bag.

Strong Mad: MORE LIKE, YOU GET ME A DRINK!
Strong Bad: Hey, don't sass back with me! - Overly Long Gag: Homestar takes a moment to listen to Bubs chanting "Check it out, check it out" over and over. Then he does it again after ordering drinks at the concession stand.
- Pyrrhic Victory: Downplayed; Strong Bad sees Homestar embarrassing himself by pretending to look at a thing in a bag, and finds it so cringeworthy he says "It almost makes the free drinks not worth it!"
- Saying Too Much: Bubs guesses that the "four drinks for four cool guys" are for Homestar, Strong Bad, Strong Mad, and The Cheat, and when Homestar wonders how he was able to guess Bubs just insists "Oh, I don't know nothing about nothing."
- That Liar Lies: When Bubs learns Homestar hasn't actually seen the Thing in a Bag, he repeatedly calls him a "liar".
- Unusual Euphemism: When Homestar sees Bubs taking the drink he thought was for himself, he shouts "Sweet mother of mystery! What's going on?"
