Following a nightmare, Hilda is convinced Fairies are real and tries to find evidence of them in Tofoten. Her efforts pay off after she sees her aunt perform some rituals near an actual fairy mound, but when she and her friends investigate, they find themselves in Fairy Country. Meanwhile, more about Johanna's past is revealed.

Tropes:

  • All Just a Dream: The opening scene of the episode, where Hilda is attacked by a mysterious hill, is revealed to be just a nightmare.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Hilda becomes obsessed with finding out about the fairies in Tofoten and the fabled Fairy Mound. Then she finds the Mound.
  • Boarding School: Johanna apparently went to one because Astrid did not want to come to Trolberg with her.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Johanna and Astrid have this during their argument at the end. Johanna is understandably mad that fairy mounds still exist and Hilda suffered the same experience of being nearly lost at the Fairy Country. Meanwhile, Astrid was right that Johanna and Hilda are only close to each other compared to other family members so she hoped they would spent more time together if she lied about the fairy mound.
  • Catapult Nightmare: Hilda wakes up like this after her nightmare.
  • Convenient Decoy Cat: Or decoy frog in this case; when Hilda follows a cloaked figure she saw outside her tent, she is almost caught, but then a frog distracts the mysterious person.
  • Downer Ending: Hilda successfully finds the proof to the fairies' existence, but she nearly gets herself and her friends abducted. While Johanna and Astrid rescue them in time, Johanna cuts the vacation short and takes everyone back to Trolberg, not to mention her relationship with Astrid becomes strained again.
  • Grumpy Old Man: Jonas, the man living in the house with the many horseshoes. He angrily orders Hilda to leave when she asks him about Fairies, until Astrid interferes.
  • History Repeats: Johanna reveals to Hilda that she wanted to find out about Tofoten's fairies just like her daughter did this episode. She not only found the Mound, but an actual fairy. The difference is that Johanna was almost whisked away to a "Fairy Isle" before Astrid rescued her. They brought Hilda and the others back before they found a fairy, which is likely a good thing, according to Astrid.
  • In the Hood: Aunt Astrid wears a face concealing hood when she goes to the Fairy Mound to perform her rituals.
  • Locked Out of the Loop. After rescuing Hilda and the others, Johanna confronts Astrid about why she kept the Fairy Mound a secret from her, having thought they "dealt with them all" years ago. Astrid tells her that she hoped it wouldn't gain Hilda's attention thanks to her adventurous curiosity, and keeping it as a secret was the only way she could convince Johanna to come back to Tofoten.
  • Non-Indicative Name: One of the Tofoten villagers the kids interview says the fairy are generally referred to as "The Fair Folk" or "The Good Neighbors", even though they're neither. When questioned why that is, she explains it's for the same reason someone would call a threatening dog approaching them a "good boy".
  • Noodle Incident: After Astrid protects Hilda from a very angry Jonas, Astrid tells her grandniece that Jonas gets upset very easily and given that she knows his name, it's strongly implied that Astrid had to deal with him before.
  • Oh, Crap!: Johanna's reaction when the Pooka tells her Hilda and friends went to the Fairy Mound.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Frida is concerned why Hilda suddenly becomes antsy and skeptical about fairies even though she's been obsessed with them for the past 24 hours. Hilda insists that she's not, but now that David has gone missing near the Fairy Mound, she says she is really hoping to be wrong about Fairies, or at least about them abducting children.
  • Our Fairies Are Different: Discussed. Everyone in Tofoten has their own version of the concept of fairy, from little (or even invisible) winged creatures to threatening kidnappers.
  • Real After All: For most of the episode, Fairies appear to be just a gimmick for tourists, and the only Fairy Mound Hilda and friends find is fake. Then they find a very real Fairy Mound just outside the city, and get pulled into Fairy Country.
  • The Reveal: Johanna left Tofoten after a close encounter with a Fairy Mound in her own childhood. She was traumatized of fairies since and left the town.
