"Sid's Revenge" provides examples of:

  • Ambiguously Gay: It is revealed in this episode that Wartz apparently lives with another man, though it's unclear if he was a partner, a roommate, or simply a visitor.
  • Contrived Coincidence: When Sid makes the voodoo doll, he thinks he killed Wartz with it, as the doctor tells him that Wartz "checked out" when he tries to visit him in the hospital, he finds Wartz's name being scraped off the door to his office, and erased from his parking space, and someone at Wartz's house crying, saying he's under the big tree in the backyard in his little dirt plot and cannot be disturbed. When Arnold destroys the voodoo doll, Wartz comes out of the ice cream store, which causes Sid to believe that he brought Wartz back to life. At the end of the episode, it is revealed that Wartz had some cosmetic surgery and is moving to the other side of the school, where there's a bigger office and a better parking space.
  • Evil Laugh: Sid gets one in this episode after he carves his voodoo doll of Wartz.
  • Here We Go Again!: At the end of the episode, it is revealed that Wartz was alive the entire time, and that the fake vomit was planted in the cafeteria by a teacher and not by Sid. However, Wartz still gives Sid detention for making the voodoo doll in the first place, leading to Sid plotting his revenge again.
  • Hollywood Voodoo: Principal Wartz gives Sid detention for a prank he didn't pull. Out of revenge and his frantic paranoia, Sid carves Wartz's likeness into a bar of soap. The next day, Sid finds out that Wartz is in the hospital, and is told by the doctor that he's already "checked out." Following this is a string of signs that soap voodoo worked.
  • I Wished You Were Dead; Sid with Wartz. When Wartz goes missing after Sid carves a voodoo doll of him out of soap, Sid comes to the conclusion that his actions have resulted in Wartz's death and is very distraught by his assumption that he killed Wartz.
  • Onion Tears: When Sid thinks his voodoo doll he carved out of soap has actually succeeded in killing the principal, one of the contrived coincidences keeping him in that illusion is a man coming to the door crying quite copiously, which is immediately revealed to the audience to be caused by onion-chopping.
  • Slippery Soap: At the end of the episode, as Sid plots his revenge on Wartz for giving him detention for making the soap doll, Wartz steps on the doll, slipping and falling on his back.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: It is revealed in this episode that pistachio is Wartz's favorite flavor of ice cream.
  • Voodoo Doll: Sid makes one of Wartz out of a bar of soap as revenge for giving him detention for a prank that he didn't pull, getting the idea from television. This leads to Sid believing that he killed Wartz.
  • Your Television Hates You: An inverted example; Sid vows revenge after Principal Wartz gives him a week's detention for something he didn't do. That night, his television seems to commiserate. He encounters a soap opera with a vengeful lead, a commercial for Sweet Revenge chocolate, and finally a National Geographic-esque program featuring the use of voodoo revenge dolls, which inspires Sid to make one in the likeness of Principal Wartz, using soap.

"Roller Coaster" provides examples of:

  • Bland-Name Product: Eugene has a Fruit Fold-Up, a spoof of Fruit Roll-Ups.
  • I Warned You: Stinky and Sid use Dino Land's megaphone to tell Arnold that they told him Eugene was a jinx.
  • Ironic Name: The fireman in the cherry picker sent to rescue Arnold and Eugene is named Lucky, yet he suffers from bad luck when his cherry picker breaks down mid-rescue.
  • The Jinx: Arnold's friends accuse Eugene of being one, since the rides in Dino Land break down whenever he rides them. Eugene is well aware of this and tells this to Arnold, who tries to deny this.
  • Noodle Incident: Eugene tells Arnold about the times he got stuck in the elevator at the library, the helicopter at the air and space museum, and the two times he was stuck in the nose of the Statue of Justice in the harbor.
  • The Pollyanna: Eugene remains optimistic as he and Arnold remain stuck on the roller coaster.
  • Rail-Car Separation: The front cars of the train break away from the rear ones as the train is about to go down a hill, resulting in Arnold and Eugene getting stuck at the top.
