Recap / Hercules The Animated Series S 1 E 11 Hercules And The Tapestry Of Fate

Go To

When Hercules and Icarus are unable to get tickets to the sold-out Orpheus concert and even Zeus is unwilling to aid them, Icarus gets the bright idea to ask the Fates to intervene. When they refuse, Icarus decides to reweave the Tapestry of Fate to score the tickets, but Hades gets the idea to do the same thing, and soon Greece is in absolute chaos—Hades rules Olympus, Zeus is Lord of the Dead, Cassandra is a copy of Helen, and Hercules is a full-fledged god and Hades' son, now sporting his grown-up look from the movie.

With fate imbalanced and ready to fall apart, Hercules uses his strength as a god to destroy the Tapestry and reweave it back to normal. The Fates give him and Icarus tickets as a reward, only for the concert to be abruptly canceled as Orpheus has come down with a sore throat. The lesson of the day is don't fight the Fates!

This episode contains examples of:

  • An Aesop: Hercules learns to never mess with the Fates.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Hades uses the Tapestry to make himself ruler of Olympus, but only for a while.
  • Distinction Without a Difference: The episode's Running Gag. For example, when Hades calls on the imps, they request to by referred as "assistant agents of darkness".
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: The Fates seemingly have a Pet the Dog moment when Hercules restores the Tapestry, so they get tickets to the Orpheus concert. However, then it turns out they caused Orpheus to lose his voice, so the concert is canceled.
  • Mugging the Monster: Hercules is attacked by Arachne while trying to find the Tapestry. Since Hercules is a god, not only does this not hurt him, but Arachne breaks her teeth.
  • No-Sell: Arachne tries biting Hercules and breaks her teeth since, with reality rewritten, Hercules is a god.
  • Rewriting Reality: Both Hercules and Hades get the idea to rewrite the titular tapestry, and thus fate itself, for their own gain.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Hilariously defied. Phil suggests Hercules get into the Orpheus concert by getting Zeus to help. Not even having the Top God as his father is enough for Hercules to get into the concert.
  • Threads of Fate: Hercules tries to alter the Tapestry to get tickets to the Orpheus concert. Unfortunately, this gives Hades the same idea, and he alters reality to make himself ruler of Olympus.
  • Villain World: Hades rewriting the Tapestry makes him the ruler of Olympus and, by extension, the world.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: The main moral of the episode. Hercules and Icarus's attempt to defy the Fates' weaving ends up with Hades taking the crown. They fix their mess but, in the end, they still can't go to the concert.
