Volume 1 of the series has relatively few characters, but over the next few volumes more are gradually introduced. Volume 2 sees the debut of comedy-holic Sakuya Aizawa, followed by Nagi's grandfather Mikado Sanzenin and best friend Isumi Saginomiya. Hayate also receives a mysterious stone (later named the Stone of Bonding) in this volume. Chapters included in this volume are:
- "In the Wee Hours of a Full Moon Night, Roasting, Smashing, and Grinding Them to Powder"
- "The Mystery of Men Playing Shogi All the Time at the Foot of the Tsutenkaku Tower"
- "The New 'Run Towards Our Sun!'"
- "Quest of the Avatar"
- "How Much is Your Life?"
- "A Way to Lose the Golden Feather"
- "Careless Kindness Brings Unhappiness"
- "Bad Ending Flags in All Directions"
- "Even a Fool Catches Cold, So Please Help Me, Nurse Angel, I'm Not Finished Yet!!"

This volume was first printed in English in February 2007.
Tropes:
- Blatant Lies: "Seriously, this manga encourages driving within the speed limit like crazy"—as Hayate starts a race with another driver.
- Sick Episode: Hayate catches a cold after retrieving Isumi, leaving Nagi to care for him with her… um… noteworthy cooking skills.
