Season 4, Episode 8

Akanahe (Reluctant Partners)

The governor asks McGarrett and Grover to serve a warrant to Ian Wright, a young computer hacker (played by Nick Jonas), in order to protect national security.
  • Cliffhanger: The final scene of the episode has McGarrett use an ATM, only for a taunting message from Ian to appear on the screen.
  • Decoy Leader: The original plan to serve a warrant to Ian goes awry when he's kidnapped by bank robbers as part of a heist, but when Five-0 catch up to them, it turns out Ian is the actual ringleader.
  • Hostage Situation: After learning that Ian is actually the ringleader of the bank robbers, Ian reveals he's set up a program that will cause an airplane to crash into the Pacific if he's not allowed to leave the island. Although Five-0 manage to find the computer running the program and stop it in time, Ian manages to escape.
  • Karma Houdini: Although the team is able to jam the signal and save the lives of hundreds, Ian escapes, and the final scene indicates that he intends to get revenge and that McGarrett intends to track him down.
  • Taking the Heat: Once the situation is dealt with but Ian escapes, McGarrett returns to the governor and claims that any bad calls made during the case was him overriding Grover's authority. It then turns out that Grover is already there to claim the bad calls were him ignoring McGarrett's authority.
