Tropes

  • Art Shift :Ken's proof that Birdman isn't working hard enough is represented by an extended live-action montage. There are actually several live action inserts in this episode; in part as a cost saving measure, and partially because Williams Street discovered that they had access to Cartoon Network's vast collection of character costumes.
  • Bad Boss: When he thinks that someone broke into his office and stole things that where never there in the first place, Sebben starts implementing security measures that go right past pointless and right into illegal. He even goes so far as claiming that his employees growing used to his insane measures and concentrating on their work as a sign that he's not being distracting enough, altering his nonsensical alert system.
Phil Ken Sebben: And for everyone's safety and security, and to preserve our way of life, I'm taking a drastic step and putting up a security camera. Just one... for safety, security, and omniscient, unblinking information gathering of everyone's activities.
  • Big Brother Is Watching: Phil employs this trope in response to the theft of all his (nonexistent) furniture. He's pretty blatant about the fact that he's spying on his employees, too.
Phil: I have to go back to reading everyone's emails... over the PA system.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: The episode can be read as a Take That! of Bush-era surveillance; Sebben erodes his employee's right to privacy under the pretense of protecting their "way of life" and takes Harvey's concerns as a personal attack. He even adds an unnecessary goatee and turban to the suspected thief (the Bear) as a shot towards the Islamophobia inherent at the time.
  • Recycled Animation: This episode was made on the cheap to open up the budget. There are very few brand new shots (mostly involving the Secret Squirrel subplot), with the majority of the episode being re-used sequences from previous episodes with new voiceover, and the live-action inserts mentioned above.
