Go To

Harley and Ivy enjoy their newfound relationship, while Gordon starts his mayoral campaign and King Shark helps Clayface with his James Gunn movie audition.

Tropes:

  • 0% Approval Rating: Commissioner Gordon wasn't exactly held in high regard by Gothamites to begin with, but in this episode, the public disapproval of him reaches a new low. Even his own subordinates side against him in the mayoral debate.
  • Alliterative Name: The actresses from the porno film are named Britney Bionic and Kylie Kryptonite.
  • Adaptational Nationality: While Plastique is from Canada, in the comics she’s a Quebecois separatist.
  • As Himself: The movie Clayface is auditioning for is being directed by James Gunn, who voices himself.
  • Biting-the-Hand Humor: Among the petty things Harley and Ivy do to the Fortress of Solitude (and the only one Superman seems angry about) is subscribing him to HBOMax, the streaming service the show runs on.
  • Brick Joke: The actresses from the film in the opening act as decoys while Harley and Ivy bust Clayface and King Shark out of Arkham.
  • Chekhov's Gag: During the Gotham mayoral debate, a lot of issues for Gotham get mentioned like super squirrels, sinkholes, puddles of toxic waste and children driving buses. During Gordon's confrontation with the Mayor where he throws a campaign button out the window, all those elements come into play to create a domino effect that ends with the old mayor getting skewered by a pole.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Gordon doesn't quite understand why someone who calls himself Two-Face would double-cross him.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Harley and Ivy are still on the run from the police.
    • They call their honeymoon the "Eat Bang Kill Tour".
    • King Shark and Clayface are in prison after being arrested at Ivy's wedding.
    • Harley mentions all of the Suicide Squad merch that Amanda Waller has been sending her throughout the series.
    • Superman shows up in hologram form after finding out that Harley and Ivy have been hiding out in the Fortress of Solitude.
    • The Cobb Squad and its tattoo is mentioned, along with Harley declining to get one.
    • Harley still has the nuclear bomb from Season 1 (though its expiration is now coming due).
    • Harley and Ivy have stolen one of Themyscira's invisible jets, and birds still bloodily crash into it.
  • Disaster Dominoes: Gordon throws Two-Face's discarded campaign button out the mayor's window, which avalanches into an escalating domino effect that ends up fatally skewering the mayor with a metal pole.
  • Fake-Out Opening: The first shot after the recap is Harley and Ivy making out... only to reveal that they are actresses playing Ivy and Harley in the porn movie that the real Harley and Ivy are watching.
  • Fun with Homophones: Two-Face snarks that the mayor lived by the polls and died by a pole.
  • Grand Romantic Gesture: Harley is nonstop with these for Ivy during their Eat Bang Kill Tour, though since they're both supervillians a lot of them involve kidnappings and thefts.
  • History Repeats: During the disastrous chain of events that kills the old mayor, a rich looking young mouse loses his parents while on a family outing, leaving to be raised by his butler.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Two-Face points out that Gordon shouldn't be surprised by him suddenly deciding to switch sides and manage his opponent's mayoral campaign considering his name.
  • Literal Metaphor: As Two-Face succinctly puts it; a literal pole kills the mayor from getting reelected.
  • Milestone Celebration: In-Universe. Harley keeps celebrating X-day anniversaries of her and Ivy being in a relationship every single day, complete with over the top gifts.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Harley and Ivy hang out at the Fortress of Solitude at the start of the episode. The hologram of Jor-El makes an appearance too.
    • The in-universe Suicide Squad has the same members as the one from the 2016 movie sans Rick Flagg.
    • The only Squad member who turns up today is Plastique, who was with them in the "Task Force X" episode of Justice League Unlimited, the first ever outside media appearance of the Squad.
  • Roaring Rampage of Romance: Harley and Ivy's happy relationship is the spark to convince Ivy to pursue her villainous dream of terraforming all of Earth.
  • Outlaw Couple: Harlivy gleefully steal, kill, and kidnap as part of their Eat Bang Kill Tour celebrating them getting together.
  • Parallel Porn Titles: One or both of the porn actresses playing Harley and Ivy were mentioned to be in The Drilling Joke.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name:
    • In-Universe, the hologram of Jor-El and everyone else takes to calling Harley and Ivy "Harlivy". Harley is pleased one exists while Ivy don't seem exactly thrilled. Ivy suggests "Hivy".
    • When they break King Shark and Clayface out of prison, Harley calls them Sharkface.
  • Schmuck Bait:
    • King Shark lampshades the convenience of them being given a cell phone to call Harley, while also not questioning it.
    • Harley and Ivy phone Gordon and tell him they're the credit card company and need him to provide his credit card and Social Security numbers, and he obliges without question.
  • Shout-Out: The line "you’re what the French call les incompétents" is directly lifted from Home Alone.
  • Smithical Marriage: Harley and Ivy check into a resort under Mrs. and Mrs. Gordon, billing the entire thing to Jim Gordon's credit card that they scammed out of him.
