Season 2, Episode 8:

Su-Zakana

With Will free and Chilton 'proven' guilty as the Chesapeake Ripper, Will resumes his therapy sessions with Hannibal again, but this supposed olive branch to mend their broken friendship may not have as just of an intent as Will makes it seem. At the same time, the FBI begins investigating a case that hits a little too close to home for Will, and is forced to reflect upon his resolve to stop Hannibal through the actions of another...

Tropes

  • Batman Gambit: Will plays a very risky one on Hannibal while overtly stating he still doesn't trust him; having figured out Hannibal's obsession with him, Will admits to Hannibal that he finally finds Hannibal interesting. The tiny smirk on Hannibal's face implies he may genuinely be happy about this.
  • Wham Line / Ironic Echo: To what Hannibal said in the very first episode of the series:
Will: I don't want to kill you anymore, Dr. Lecter...not now that I finally find you interesting.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Symbolic?: Invoked; even for a show as regularly symbolic as Hannibal, this episode takes it to a new level, with Will and Hannibal discussing how Peter's relationship with Clark perfectly parallels Will's situation with Hannibal, and what the victims' resolve will be and says about them.
