Which Way To The Barbeque?

Manny and the tools decide to have a barbeque picnic by Lake Nochanailin with Kelly and Elliot, but a loose sign- and some wind- lead to the two groups getting separated.

”Which Way To The Barbeque?” provides instances of:

  • Chekhov's Gun: Early in the episode, Manny and the tools comment on how windy it is; later, the wind ends up solving the mystery of where Kelly and Elliot are, as it turns out that it was causing the sign that pointed the way towards Lake Nochanailin’s picnic area to occasionally point down the wrong path.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Manny realizes that the wind is causing a sign on the trail to point down the wrong path:
Manny: That must be what happened to Kelly and Elliot.
Pat: They got blown away by the wind?!
  • Death Glare: When Pat tries to sing “Do You Know The Muffin Man”, Turner death-glares him into stopping.
  • Picnic Episode: The main focus of the episode revolves around Manny, the tools, Kelly, and Elliot trying to have a barbeque picnic by Lake Nochanailin, but getting separated and accidentally going down two different trails.
  • Pun: When Mr. Lopart’s inflatable lollipop overinflates and bursts:
Mr. Lopart: Guess my lolly popped.
  • Questioning Title?: Has one.
  • Road-Sign Reversal: The wind ends up causing a sign on a trail by Lake Nochanailin to switch at random between pointing down the correct path and pointing down the wrong one; this causes Manny and the tools to get separated from Kelly and Elliot.
  • Stock Sound Effects: The same wind noise can be heard pretty much every time the wind picks up.

Back On Track

Mrs. Portillo calls Manny- her sliding kitchen door is stuck open, and a swarm of flies has invaded her kitchen! With all the flies around, she can’t work on her special summer salsa, and she can’t get rid of the flies until Manny fixes her door.

Tropes in “Back On Track” include:

  • Absurd Phobia: Apparently, Rusty is scared of flies… and insects in general, for that matter.
  • Brick Joke: Near the beginning of the episode, Carlos is shown to be overly fond of Turner and wants to lick him, much to Turner’s annoyance and disgust. At the end of the episode, Carlos tries to lick Turner again.
  • Continuity Nod: The scene in Mrs. Portillo’s tomato garden isn’t the first time Rusty is scared by a ladybug.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: One happens when Carlos chases Turner around the kitchen, trying to lick him.
  • Offscreen Crash: This ensues when Mr. Lopart drops a giant statue he made of Fluffy.
  • Pest Episode: Part of the episode involves dealing with a swarm of flies that entered Mrs. Portillo’s kitchen when her sliding back door got stuck open.
  • Pun-Based Title: When something is “back on track” it’s back to going the way it should, and Manny gets Mrs. Portillo’s sliding door back to working the way it should by replacing part of the track it runs on.
  • Rhyming Title: Has one.
  • Terrible Artist: One of the tools must be one, because the sign on their miniature model of Manny’s shop looks like this.
  • Title Drop: One happens, pun and all.
Manny: Mrs. Portillo, your puerta is back on track.
  • Unconventional Food Usage: Mr. Lopart makes a giant statue of Fluffy out of marshmallow-covered popcorn, with gumdrops for the ears and nose and licorice for whiskers.
  • Watch Where You're Going!: Felipe and Turner end up running into each other while trying to chase a swarm of flies out of Mrs. Portillo’s kitchen.
