Now he's got the look of a hero!

"No good deed goes unpunished."

Airdate: July 20, 2009

In the first HD episode, Splendid makes his public appearance at the annual convention! But once again, his actions end up making a bloody mess.

"Wrath of Con" contains the following:

  • Art Shift: When Sniffles sees Splendid holding up some debris from the convention centre he accidentally wrecked, the shot of Splendid is done in a more detailed watercolour style and depicts him in a more heroic-looking pose, conveying Sniffles's admiration of him.
  • Bait-and-Switch: In the Blurb version, when Giggles and Petunia are playing with toy versions of a lightsaber and a wooden spear respectively, the blurb notes that this match-up doesn't seem fair. After Splendid uses his heat vision to turn Giggles's lightsaber into the real deal, the blurb says that maybe now it finally stands a chance against the stick.
  • Diagonal Cut: After Giggles swings her toy-turned-real lightsaber at Petunia, the two smile happily at each other for a short moment before Petunia is horizontally cut in half.
  • Does Not Know His Own Strength: Once again, Splendid is unaware of how strong he really is:
    • He flicks the tip of a pen too hard and it flies through the heads of Mime, Disco Bear, and Russell.
    • He taps a mic to test it, causing it to break into pieces.
    • He sucks up all the oxygen in a room to stop a fire, but ends up taking too much as the tree friends start to asphyxiate.
    • He blows out the air he sucked in, which inflates the entire room and blows up the building with everybody inside (except Splendid).
  • Ear Ache: Toothy and Cuddles have their eardrums explode by Splendid's loud speaking.
  • Facial Horror: When Giggles has her lightsaber modified (with Splendid's laser vision) to become an actual lightsaber, the heat melts the plastic, which ends up falling on her head. The next time we see her, her whole face and a large section of her head is gone, with the only thing remaining being some teeth embedded in her skin.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Petunia gets sliced in half by a lightsaber.
  • Instant Wristwatch: Splendid does a more old-fashioned take on this trope, pulling a pocket watch out of nowhere and realising that he needs to get to the speech he's supposed to make when he takes a look at it.
  • Is This Thing On?: When preparing to make his speech, Splendid taps his microphone. Unfortunately, this causes it to fall to pieces due to his super strength, forcing him to speak loudly using his super voice instead. This does not end well for his audience.
  • Man on Fire: The make-shift lightsaber Splendid makes melts on top of Giggles, lighting her aflame and spreading the fire to others.
  • Missing Episode: This trope is referenced in the Blurb, which calls the scene where Giggles and Petunia are dressed up as Star Wars characters "[f]ootage from the lost HTF Star Wars episode". invoked
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Splendid's attempts to make his fans happy end up killing everybody except him. It's so prominent that it's even the moral of the story.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The title is a reference to the movie Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
  • Self-Deprecation: When the watercolour-style shot of Splendid, which was drawn by series creator Kenn Navarro, appears in the Blurb version of the episode, the blurb quips that the artwork at the first Comic-Con in 1970 "looked way better than this".
  • Shoehorned First Letter: The blurb points out that this episode "inventively initiated integrating illiterated illustrations" (i.e. introduced the starring cards with an alliterative or rhyming sentence for the character in question), substituting "alliterated" with "illiterated".
  • Shout-Out: A couple of references appear thanks to cosplay:
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Sniffles, Cuddles, Giggles, Toothy, Lumpy, Cub, Pop, Lifty, Shifty, Nutty, Handy, Petunia, The Mole, Mime, Disco Bear, Russell, Flaky, and possibly Cro-Marmot die.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Splendid and maybe Cro-Marmot survive.
