“If friends were flowers, I'd pick you!”

Airdate: March 14, 2000

"Treasure Those Idol Moments" is the eleventh episode of the first (internet) season of Happy Tree Friends.

The episode opens with Toothy playing on a swing until he falls buckteeth first to the ground. Suddenly, he finds a mysterious, glowing idol. He picks it up, but his head is then caved in by the swing shortly after. The idol flies off from his hands from the impact and lands in a sandbox where Sniffles is building a sandcastle. Noticing the idol, the anteater picks it up, only to suddenly get sucked in by the sandbox, which is now turning into quicksand. The idol now lands in Cub's hands. A boulder suddenly appears on the slide he is on, predictably killing him. The idol gets launched into Flaky's hands this time. As soon as she grabs it, she notices Lumpy driving straight towards the monkey bars she is on, but it is too late for her as she gets splattered. As the oblivious Lumpy keeps on driving, the idol suddenly appears in his car's back seat, buckled up. After an ominous fade to black, a tire screeching sound is heard before a crash.

"Treasure Those Idol Moments" contains the following:

  • Artifact of Death: The Cursed Idol.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Thanks to the idol.
    • Toothy's head gets caved in by a swing.
    • Cub gets crushed by an inexplicably-appearing boulder.
    • Flaky is outright splattered by Lumpy's car.
  • Death by Looking Up: Upon noticing a suddenly-appearing shadow, Cub looks up to see a boulder joining him on the slide.
  • Downer Ending: Nobody survives the idol's curse. Not even Lumpy.
  • Establishing Series Moment: The Cursed Idol's presence bringing certain doom to the poor critters as another way for the show to be more sadistic.
  • "Everybody Dies" Ending: All main characters featured in this episode die.
  • Fade to Black: Instead of the usual closing iris, the ending shot is fixated on The Cursed Idol in Lumpy's car before fading to black.
  • Gold Makes Everything Shiny: The Cursed Idol is gold and glows brightly when Toothy first finds it.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: Not a detail is shown regarding Cub's death, as the scene suddenly switches to show the idol being launched away along with some blood splatter.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: Due to Lumpy's death being a Sound-Only Death, it is not clear how graphic the idol-induced car crash is.
  • Offscreen Crash: Lumpy's car crash after the episode's Fade to Black.
  • Offscreen Teleportation: The Cursed Idol somehow ends up inside Lumpy's car at the end of the episode. Buckled up, too.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: Flaky is shown enjoying swinging upside down on the monkey bars. Consider that she usually prefers not to do anything this risky, as small as it is.
  • Quicksand Sucks: The sandbox Sniffles is in turns into this after he picks up the idol.
  • Shout-Out: Invoked by the episode's description, which mentions that some fans think that this episode is based on The Brady Bunch (specifically the Hawaii vacation moment) while others think that it's based on Raiders of the Lost Ark. The latter is more noticeable as The Cursed Idol is an Expy of the fertility idol and Cub's death involves a boulder.
  • Sound-Only Death: Lumpy's death, due to the Fade to Black.
  • Staggered Zoom: The episode zooms in on The Cursed Idol this way right before the Fade to Black and Lumpy's Sound-Only Death.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Cub, Lumpy, Sniffles, and Toothy die yet again.
  • Updated Re-release: One of the early episodes to be part of "Classics Remastered" releases, which rerelease early HTF episodes in HD.
