Lumpy operating an amusement park? What can go wrong?
"If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing right!"

Episode: 1.1 (One Foot in the Grave)

Airdate: September 25, 2006

Lumpy repairs a roller coaster, need we say more?

Staring: Lumpy, and Sniffles.

Featuring: Cuddles, Flaky, Mime, Nutty, Giggles, Petunia, Disco Bear, Russel, Lifty, and Shifty.

"The Wrong Side of the Tracks" provides examples of:

  • Advertised Extra: Despite Sniffles' role as 'Starring', he doesn't appear in a lot of scenes (although, he did unintentionally contribute to Mime's death).
  • Amusement Park of Doom: Lumpy's amusement park as a whole. Though, the eponymous roller-coaster is the driving force of the deaths (sans Mime).
  • And Show It to You: A non-murder variant. Nutty gets his heart forced out of his body when he gets impaled at the Ring Toss game.
  • Bait-and-Switch: You'd thought Lumpy was upside down? Nah, that was the camera upside-down.
  • Blind Shoulder Toss: There is a recurring scene where Sniffles walks through the amusement park with a metal detector. When he finds useless junk he tosses it behind his shoulder. During one scene, Lumpy is fixing a hole in a fence while Mime is watching. Sniffles finds a nail and throws it behind his back, accidentally popping the balloon that Mime is holding, causing Lumpy to turn around and hit Mime with the plank of wood that has nails on it.
  • Brick Joke: At the beginning of the episode, Flaky vomits after the roller-coaster stops working. When Cuddles, Flaky, Russel and Disco Bear get off, Lumpy slips over the same puddle and falls over.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death:
    • Nutty is impaled on a peg, extracting his heart from his body.
    • Mime is hit in the head with a wooden plank full of sharp nails.
    • Cuddles has his hands cut off and then dies of massive blood loss.
    • Handy gets vertically split in half from a giant piece of crystalline glass.
    • Lifty and Shifty gets their entire bodies minced by the turnstile at the entrance of the park.
    • Lumpy's body slowly files down by friction when attempting to stop Giggles and Petunia's cart.
    • Sniffles is crushed by a roller coaster cart.
    • Giggles and Petunia die from the force of the impact of their cart hitting the ground, causing their spines to pop out of their bodies.
  • Downer Ending: Lumpy’s newly revamped roller-coaster causes nothing but carnage to his customers and himself.
  • Establishing Series Moment: For the TV series, Nutty's sudden and cruel death at the beginning.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Several, but in the context regarding the TV series as a whole.
  • Idiot Houdini: Subverted on the Houdini part, Lumpy is responsible for every single death in this episode, himself included.
  • Karmic Death: Handy gets this when he laughs at Cuddles' death, only for him to suffer a cruel death.
    • Lumpy deserves this to a lesser extent after lazily rebuilding the roller coaster and causing the deaths of several characters.
  • New Job as the Plot Demands: Lumpy is a roller-coaster engineer and amusement park supervisor.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • When Giggles, Petunia, Lifty and Shifty fall through a gap in the tracks, their reaction is appropriately this.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Nutty, Mime, Cuddles, Handy, Lifty, Shifty, Lumpy, Sniffles, Giggles, and Petunia all die in this episode.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Flaky, Disco Bear, and Russell survive this episode.
  • Turbine Blender: Lifty and Shifty's fate.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: After spending the entire episode looking for something valuable, Sniffles finally finds a coin! Too bad he dies from being at the wrong place.
