After trying to catch her pet bird from flying off, Petunia ends up having her hands cut off by a window pane. Petunia walks out of the hospital with bandaged nubs where she then sees and falls in love with Handy.
"I Nub You" provides examples of:
- An Arm and a Leg: Notably the only episode where the loss of limb has an effect on the plot; Petunia's loss of her hands causes her to fall in love with Handy.
- Back from the Dead: Lumpy manages to revive Handy and Petunia albeit in a horrifying way.
- Beyond the Impossible: Lumpy somehow cut off his own arms and reattached them to the Petunia/Handy hybrid while doing the surgery. Keep in mind that all of these tasks required his hands!
- Borrowed Catchphrase: When Petunia realizes she can't pick up the bowling ball, she gives an Aside Glance and groans in frustration just like Handy.
- Body Horror: Near the end, Petunia and Handy are sewn together on each other's backsides.
- Cruel and Unusual Death: After using their bodies to roll into the bowling line, Handy and Petunia get cut up into pins. Then they're revived into a sewn monstrosity as a bird flies in and undoes their stitching, killing them once more.
- Downer Ending: Petunia and Handy's relationship ends with their deaths.
- Epic Fail: The surgery that Lumpy performs at the end resulted in both of his arms being cut off.
- Falling-in-Love Montage: Happens after Petunia realizes that both she and Handy have no hands.
- Holding Hands: Cuddles and Giggles hold hands while Petunia and Handy tie their arms bandages together.
- Karma Houdini: The bird that is responsible for Petunia's arms being cut off and for accidentally killing her and Handy at the end suffers no comeuppance.
