"Flippin' Burgers" is the fourth episode of the second (internet) season of Happy Tree Friends.
At a small burger joint, Cuddles and Giggles are having some fast food. Cuddles accidentally squirts ketchup on Giggles instead of the meal. Just then, Flippy comes visiting. His PTSD begins to trigger as he sees the ketchup-covered Giggles as dead war victims. Fliqpy approaches the duo's table and then flips it over. He snatches Cuddles's straw in order to use it to stab the rabbit's chest, causing him to leak out blood. Cuddles begins to panic to the point of trying to save himself by drinking his own blood, but he ends up passing away anyway. Giggles screams in horror as Fliqpy approaches her from the ceiling, with bottles of ketchup and mustard in both hands. He plugs both condiments into her ears then squeezes the contents, killing her. Next, Fliqpy enters the kitchen where he slams fry cook Petunia's face into the grill, with gruesome results. This causes an explosion that burns the other customers and causes the joint's door to crush both Pop and Cub. Fliqpy makes his landing from avoiding the explosion, fries raining near him. He picks one and dips it into Cuddles's blood. After eating it, he sighs contently.
"Flippin' Burgers" provides examples of:
- Ambidextrous Sprite:
- Flippy's beret as usual.
- Cuddles's drink is held on one hand, but when he turns the other way, the drink is held by the other hand.
- A Bloody Mess: Flippy mistakes the ketchup on Giggles for blood, reminding him of dead war victims.
- Cooked to Death: Fliqpy kills Petunia by slamming her face onto the burger grill she was working. He lifts her head again after a second, giving the viewer a good look at her horribly burnt face.
- Cruel and Unusual Death:
- Giggles dies from brain damage after having ketchup and mustard squeezed into her ears.
- Petunia's head is burned by the grill.
- One of the
planned deaths had Mole's skin being ripped off after Fliqpy hung him on the coat rack.
- Faceless Masses: Present as the other customers (and later victims).
- Facial Horror: The viewer gets a nice view of Petunia's melted face from the grill.
- Flashback Echo: When Flippy sees Giggles covered in ketchup and mistakes it for blood, images of her as a blood-covered corpse scroll past in the background as he flips out.
- Flipping the Table: Fliqpy's first action after the flip-out.
- Foreshadowing: The episode's official description:(...)"Yes, they might use different condiments than we do, but even fluffy cute creatures have to eat."(...)
- True enough, Fliqpy does use a different condiment than most people: rabbit blood.
- High-Pressure Blood: Cuddles after having his chest stabbed by his drinking straw.
- Limited Sound Effects: Giggles's noise when the condiments are inserted into her ears is reused from "This Is Your Knife".
- Meaningful Name: The episode's title is not only named after Flippy, but is also based on an idiom that means low-wage jobs, which describes the episode's setting.
- Overcrank: Applied to the fries after Fliqpy's table flip. Originally, there would be slow motion gun shootings too, but Ken Pontac considers that cheap, hence why there are no kills caused by actual guns in the entire show.
- Sole Survivor: Flippy.
- Stuff Blowing Up: The burger joint explodes from Fliqpy's assault.
- Surprisingly Sudden Death: Pop and Cub were just about to enter the burger joint when it suddenly explodes, causing both of them to get crushed by the door.
- They Killed Kenny Again: Petunia, Pop, Cub, Cuddles, and Giggles die.
- Thousand-Yard Stare: All that happiness from Cuddles and ketchup-covered Giggles, while the triggered Flippy can only stare at them before flipping out.
- Three-Point Landing: Fliqpy after blowing up the burger joint.
- Throw the Dog a Bone: Flippy survives.
