Volcanalis. Possibly the devil, definitely terrifying.

The demon came home, and he declared that the air was not clear. "I smell the flesh of man."

While Hank goes on vacation, Nick and Renard team up to investigate the death of a local geologist who was cooked from the inside out after taking volcanic rock samples from Mount Hood.

Juliette is endangered as she's beset by an avalanche of memories, and turns to an acquaintance for help.

Adalind's plans for the Royal child she's carrying kicks into gear. But she's not after money for her baby.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Call-Back:
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Being cooked alive certainly counts.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When Marcus Hemmings refers to "hell freezing over" regarding the possibility of stopping Volcanalis, Nick has an idea: liquid nitrogen.
  • Flashback: Invoked in-universe as Juliette takes a herbal tea that allows her to focus on one Nick memory at a time, rather than being overwhelmed by them. This also lets her step in and experience them, resulting in a true flashback.
  • Lured into a Trap: Since Volcanalis tracks down and kills anyone who takes a sacred rock from whatever volcano it's inhabiting currently, the gang kill it by taking a bunch of rocks and lying in wait with tanks of liquid nitrogen on standby.
  • Mood Whiplash: Juliette's returning memories of Nick are getting out of hand, resulting in her watching a crowd of imaginary Nicks shout out questions and walk through each other as they act out various random moments. It's less funny when a Nick suddenly appears in the car, startling her so badly she crashes the car and ends up in hospital.
  • Noodle Incident: Nick apparently once drank "a lot of mesquale" and ate a worm to win an Elvis lamp.
  • Real After All: When Juliette is in hospital after crashing the car, the Nick who arrives at her bedside looks like another hallucination. "Go away!" probably wasn't the response he was expecting.
  • Scream Discretion Shot: When the Gypsy woman takes a sample of Adalind's baby's blood to test whether she's telling the truth about its paternity. A massive needle is involved.
  • Wham Line: Adalind reveals the price she wants for her baby: her Hexenbiest powers back. Otherwise, she implies she'll abort and no one gets it.
  • Written-In Absence: Russell Hornsby injured his Achilles tendon prior to shooting, resulting in Hank appearing only briefly before being shooed off on vacation. This is also why he's jokingly wheeled out in his office chair instead of walking. His role in the story is filled by Renard.
